33-sai Dokushin Onna Kishi Taicho Anime Announced by Digital Shokunin

Digital Shokunin announced on Friday that it is producing an anime adaptation of Amahara’s manga 33-sai Dokushin Onna Kishi Taicho, which translates roughly to 33 Years Old Single Girl Knight Captain. The announcement came with a music video, not a trailer.

That video is for a song called “Boogieing Dance Kishi” (Boogieing Dance Knights), sung by Sekka, composed and arranged by Suzumi, with lyrics by Sekka and Suzumi. It is streaming on the project’s YouTube channel and it is not safe for work.

No studio, no cast, no format and no release window were included. For now the entire public footprint of this anime is one music video and an announcement.

What the manga is

The series centres on Mail, the 33-year-old knight captain of the title, and her friends. All of them work under exploitative conditions, all of them are too busy to do anything about their personal lives, and the little free time they have goes into drinking and taking care of themselves. It is a sex comedy built on exhaustion, which is a specific and slightly cruel joke that has clearly found readers.

Amahara launched it in KATTS’s online adult manga magazine Ananga Ranga in October 2015, and it is still running there irregularly. Chapters are often only one or two pages long, which makes it less a serialised story and more a recurring gag strip with a cast. Flex Comics published the fourth collected volume on January 15.

Amahara’s track record with adaptations

This is the third Amahara property to reach animation, and the previous two are instructive.

Interspecies Reviewers, which Amahara created with masha, started as a one-shot in Kadokawa’s Monthly Dragon Age in July 2016 before launching in the Dra Dra Sharp# section of Nico Nico Seiga that August. Kadokawa published the twelfth volume on October 9, and Yen Press released the eleventh in English on April 28. The anime premiered in January 2020, and Funimation pulled it from streaming that same month, saying the series fell outside its standards and that it would remove the show entirely rather than alter it. Amazon Prime Video followed in the first week of February, taking down both the subtitled and dubbed versions. Right Stuf later licensed it and released it uncensored on Blu-ray in December 2021.

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace has a different history. Amahara serialised the original web version on Neetsha and stopped abruptly in May 2016. Coolkyoushinja launched a remake in Hakusensha’s Young Animal in August 2018, caught up with the older version in early 2023, and ended it in August 2024 with nine volumes. Seven Seas published the ninth in English in November 2025. The anime ran on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block in July 2021 and Crunchyroll streamed it.

So Amahara’s material gets adapted, gets noticed, and in one case gets removed from platforms within weeks. That is the context this new project is walking into. It also puts it in the same week as another adult manga getting a TV order: Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight!, which has a studio, a director and a January 2027 date already attached.

Why the music video approach is odd

Most anime announcements lead with a key visual and a staff list. Leading with a song suggests the production is early, or that the announcement is being used to test interest before the money is fully committed.

It also fits the source. A manga of one and two-page chapters does not hand a studio a ready-made season structure. Whoever adapts it has to build episodes out of fragments, which is a real writing problem, not a marketing one.

What to expect

Realistically, nothing soon. An anime with no studio attached in early November is unlikely to appear in 2027, and the announcement did not promise a year.

For anyone who liked the deadpan economics of Interspecies Reviewers, this premise is at least as pointed. Mail and her colleagues are not adventuring. They are working, badly paid, and too tired for anything else. Whether that survives the jump to television without the explicit material that got the earlier show banned is the question nobody has answered yet.
