Glacier Bay Books’ manga catalog has a new digital home. The Sweet Shop comics platform is now hosting Glacier Bay Books manga titles, with more releases said to be on the way.
For readers outside the small-press print circuit, the move matters for a simple reason: Glacier Bay’s books have historically been physical-first, printed in small runs and sold through a webshop and a network of stockists rather than through major digital storefronts.
What Glacier Bay Books publishes
Glacier Bay Books describes itself as a North American publisher showcasing the cutting edge of contemporary artistic comics, focusing on the artistic and idiosyncratic indie and alternative manga coming out of Japan’s small-press comics scene. Its catalog leans toward short-story collections, minicomics and anthologies rather than long serialized series.
The publisher’s best-known project is the Glaeolia anthology line, alongside stand-alone books such as Hagiwara Rei’s PANDORA, Flash Point, Seaside Beta and To The Sea. Its release of Kusahara Umi’s debut short-story collection MOTHERS was nominated for Best New Manga at the 2024 American Manga Awards. The company is run by publisher emuh ruh and has used a US fulfillment partner since 2023.
Which titles are moving
The publisher said in April 2026 that four titles were recently finished or about to finish printing: Baku Chan, Box Garden Beetle, The Cursed Body and Star Clock Liddell. Those titles, or whatever share of the catalog the new platform carries, are the practical answer to what Sweet Shop readers can expect to find.
Sweet Shop is not an exclusive home for the catalog, and nothing announced so far suggests Glacier Bay is pulling its print editions from its own webshop. The likely effect is to widen access rather than replace the existing seller.
Why the catalog has been shifting
The digital rollout comes after a difficult year for the publisher and the catalog surrounding it. In February 2026, Glacier Bay Books announced that Star Fruit Books was transferring its publishing line and inventory to Glacier Bay, following the death of Star Fruit Books founder Matt Haasch in September 2025.
By April, Glacier Bay said it had received most of the Star Fruit inventory and would begin processing it and preparing shipments for the orders it could fulfill with the stock on hand. The publisher also said it planned to list excess stock through its own website once existing Star Fruit orders had been fulfilled. That sequence explains why some of the catalog’s availability has moved in stages rather than all at once.
Indie manga keeps finding readers on digital services
This is not the first time Glacier Bay’s books have appeared on a digital service. KiraKira Media Inc.’s digital manga service Omoi, formerly known as Azuki, added manga from both Glacier Bay Books and Star Fruit Books back in 2022. Sweet Shop joining that list extends a pattern that has become fairly standard for small publishers: print runs stay small and festival-driven, while digital platforms do the work of introducing the catalog to readers who would never encounter it in a comic shop.
The same logic shows up elsewhere in the industry. Yen Press recently announced a batch of 17 new manga and light novel licenses, and digital-first distribution has become a common route for smaller catalogs that cannot justify large print commitments.
Why it matters
Alternative and indie Japanese manga is notoriously hard to follow in English, because availability is uneven and titles can go out of print quickly. Each additional platform that carries a publisher like Glacier Bay makes that catalog a little more discoverable and a little less dependent on whether a specific print run has sold through.
There is a practical limit to the good news, though. No release schedule, pricing or a full title list for the Sweet Shop rollout has been detailed, so readers should treat this as increased availability rather than a sudden, complete digital archive of the publisher’s back catalog.
