The second season of Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf has its first teaser. Kadokawa revealed the promotional video for the returning anime during the “Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten Online 2026” livestream event on Saturday, October 3, along with a new addition to the cast.
Romi Park is joining the series as Eve Bolan, the event announced. A premiere date for the season has not been given yet, so the teaser and the cast reveal are the concrete news so far.
The teaser itself is short, but it confirms the production is far enough along to show footage, which usually signals a season aimed at a specific upcoming window rather than an open-ended announcement.
Who is making season 2
Takeo Takahashi returns as chief director, with Hijiri Sanpei, who directed the first season, also back. Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Smile Down the Runway) and Takahiro Majima (an episode director on Interspecies Reviewers) are directing the second season at Passione.
Koji Haneda (The Faraway Paladin) returns to design the characters alongside Rina Sugimoto. Kevin Penkin, whose credits include Made in Abyss, Tower of God and The Rising of the Shield Hero, is again composing the music — a meaningful point of continuity, since the score was one of the strongest elements of the revival.
Cast and how the revival works
Jun Fukuyama returns as the traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence and Ami Koshimizu returns as Holo, with Mai Nakahara back as Norah Arendt. Romi Park is the first new name confirmed for the season.
The current anime is a completely new adaptation rather than a continuation of the 2008 series, retelling the story of Lawrence’s meeting with the wolf goddess Holo. Its first season debuted in April 2024 and aired for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired and also produced an English dub.
The novels behind it
Isuna Hasekura launched the Spice and Wolf light novels with illustrations by Jū Ayakura in 2006. The series took a break after its 17th volume in 2011 and returned with the 18th in 2016. The 25th and latest volume ships on October 9, 2026. Yen Press publishes the novels in English and also handles the manga adaptation.
Hasekura also began the spinoff series Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf in April 2016, which Yen Press is releasing in English as well. The original novels previously inspired two television seasons from director Takeo Takahashi and writer Naruhisa Arakawa, airing in 2008 and 2009; Funimation released both on home video. A virtual reality anime followed in 2019, with a sequel in 2020.
Why it matters
The 2024 revival was a deliberate re-adaptation, not a reboot for its own sake: it returned to Hasekura’s source with a modern production and a longer runway, and it found a new audience alongside longtime readers. A confirmed second season means that bet is being followed through, and it puts the adaptation further into the novels than the earlier television run reached.
Eve Bolan is a notable addition because the character carries real weight in the story rather than being a one-arc guest, and casting an actor of Romi Park’s range signals the season intends to use her. For viewers who came in through the 2024 season, the practical takeaways are simple: the main creative team is intact, the score is back, and the story is moving forward.
Two projects from the same Dengeki Bunko event are also worth watching: the new Antiquarian Bookshop Biblia’s Case Files anime, and our ranked look at the most anticipated shows of Fall 2026.
