MediaOCD Will Sell Aniplex of America Anime on Blu-ray, Starting With Gurren Lagann and Mashle

MediaOCD has struck a sales deal with Aniplex of America to carry select anime on Blu-ray Disc through its own online store. The first wave went live on Wednesday. It leans on two established favourites: Gurren Lagann and Mashle: Magic and Muscles. Neither title is a stranger to home video.

What is available now

The Gurren Lagann Complete Blu-ray Disc Box collects the television series’ 27 episodes along with the two films, Gurren Lagann the Movie -Childhood’s End- and Gurren Lagann the Movie -The Lights in the Sky Are Stars-. It also carries the special Blu-ray version of episode six, “There Are Some Things I Just Have to See!!”, and the broadcast cut, “Sit In the Hot Tub ‘Til You’re Sick!”.

The Gurren Lagann the Movie 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc brings both films together remastered in 4K. The set marks the films’ 15th anniversary, which fell in 2023, and includes the English dub that debuted during the films’ revival screenings in North America in 2024.

Both Mashle boxes are on offer too: the Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 1 Complete Blu-ray Disc Box and the Mashle: Magic and Muscles The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc Complete Blu-ray Disc Box. Each one bundles mini-character stickers, a special booklet, an original soundtrack CD and creditless opening and ending videos. The season 1 box adds a U.S. Blu-ray exclusive coaster.

A bit of history

Gurren Lagann aired in 2007 and grew into one of the defining mecha series of its decade. That single 27-episode run produced two films, two OVAs, several manga adaptations and spinoffs, and three stage plays. The first film, Childhood’s End, opened in Japanese cinemas in September 2008, while The Lights in the Sky Are Stars followed in April 2009.

Mashle arrived much later. Its first season debuted in April 2023. Season two followed in January 2024, and a third season is set for January 2027, so the boxes land while the series is still adding new episodes.

Why it matters

Aniplex of America has long handled its own home video releases, so letting another retailer sell its titles is a shift worth noting. MediaOCD built its name on anime restorations and smaller print runs, and fans have come to associate the storefront with careful transfers rather than mass-market discs.

For Gurren Lagann, the appeal is straightforward. The 4K films and the Complete Box give collectors another route to a series that has been reissued several times, and the episode six variants are the kind of detail that matters to the people who buy physical media. For Mashle, the timing is practical: the third season is close enough that a new viewer can catch up on disc before it airs.

More Aniplex of America titles are expected to join the store, though the company has not said which ones or when. For now, the lineup is small and specific, which fits how MediaOCD usually operates.

The deal also says something about where Gurren Lagann stands after nearly two decades. A 2007 series still earning fresh 4K and box-set releases is a clear sign of staying power, and Aniplex is betting that demand for it has not run out.

It arrives in a busy stretch for physical anime. GKIDS also recently set a December Blu-ray for the 100 Meters film, so collectors have more than one release to weigh this winter.
