The SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime has filled out its cast. The official website revealed eight new voice actors, along with the show’s second promotional video and the artists handling its ending theme. The update landed after the anime screened at New York Comic Con on Saturday evening.
The new names join Takeo Ōtsuka, who voices lead hunter Gongja Kim, and Satoshi Hino as the Sword Emperor, both revealed earlier.
The new cast
Toshiki Masuda plays the Flame Emperor, the top-ranked hunter whose status drives Gongja’s envy. Megumi Han is the Witch of the Black Dragon. Sayaka Kinoshita voices the Paladin, Risa Shimizu the Countess, and Makoto Furukawa the Poisonous Viper. Natsumi Fujiwara plays the Inquisitor, Yuka Iguchi the Master Alchemist, and Shunsuke Sakuya the Blade Saint.
One small wrinkle: the anime’s website lists Gongja Kim under the romanization Yeon-ja Kim, while the cast announcement uses Gongja.
Theme song and music
THE SPELLBOUND and Boom Boom Satellites will perform the ending theme. Ryo Kawasaki, who scored all three seasons of To Your Eternity and Romantic Killer, is composing the music with Tomoyuki Kono, whose credits include A Few Moments of Cheers and Romantic Killer.
Production and release
The anime debuts in January on Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block. Crunchyroll will stream it worldwide outside Asia, including in the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia. The series screened at New York Comic Con before the wider reveal.
Hiroaki Sakurai, who directed The Demon Girl Next Door, is directing at Studio fu. Sayuri Ōba is writing the script, Takahiro Yoshimatsu is handling character designs and HAYATE is producing.
The source material
SSS-Class Revival Hunter began as a web novel by Sinnoa in November 2018. A webtoon adaptation followed in December 2020, with Neida adapting and Bill K drawing. Tapas publishes the webtoon digitally in English and Ize Press is releasing it in print, while WuxiaWorld handles the web novel.
The premise centers on a tower full of monsters and the hunters who climb it for money and fame. Gongja Kim is an F-rank hunter stuck at the bottom, watching the Flame Emperor take the top spot. He gets a chance at something better when he teams up with the Sword Emperor and gains a rare S-rank skill. The catch is that he has to die for it to work, which is a neat hook for a story about wanting to survive.
Why it matters
Announcing eight cast members at once is a sign that production is far enough along to lock the lineup, and a January broadcast on +Ultra gives it a visible slot in a competitive season. The webtoon audience is the other half of the equation. Korean web novels and webtoons have become a steady source of anime green lights, and this one arrives with a print publisher in Ize Press and a digital home already in place.
