Spy x Family Volume 16 Cracks the Top 10 on the New York Times Bestseller List

Spy x Family is back in the American top ten. The series’ 16th English volume sits at number six on the New York Times “Graphic Books and Manga” list for October 2026, and it is one of only two newly released manga titles to reach the top 15 in the past week.

Volume 16 shipped in North America on September 1 through VIZ Media. The other newcomer near the top is Witch Hat Atelier: Grimoire Edition 2, a hardcover collection of volumes 4, 5 and 6. Jujutsu Kaisen volume 1, which has been a fixture since MAPPA’s anime adaptation took off, has now spent 16 weeks in the top 15.

What is in Volume 16

The volume picks up two threads. Melinda Desmond comes to Loid for counseling, and the session hands him an intelligence opening he did not expect. Back at Eden Academy, a new term begins and Anya lands in the middle of an international dispute.

That mix of spy work, school comedy and family tension is the formula Tatsuya Endo has run since the start. Twilight, a master spy, poses as psychiatrist Loid Forger, marries Yor, adopts Anya, and remains oblivious to the fact that his wife is an assassin and his daughter can read minds.

Where the series stands

Endo launched the manga on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform on March 25, 2019. The publication schedule has wobbled at times, with breaks tied to Endo’s health, but sales have not suffered for it.

Earlier in 2026 the Japanese market offered a sharper measure of that. Volume 17 took the number one spot on Oricon’s weekly chart for April 13 to 18, moving 224,695 copies. One Piece volume 114, the reigning giant of the medium, sat in sixth that week with 26,139 copies. On that week, the gap between first and sixth place was almost nine to one.

Chapter 141 arrived on October 11, with the next installment expected later this month. The manga is also available digitally through VIZ Media’s app, alongside hundreds of other titles.

Why it matters

The New York Times has published its Graphic Books and Manga list since October 2019, and a spot near the top is one of the few public sales signals the American manga market offers.

A top-ten finish for a 16th volume is not guaranteed, even for a hit. Long-running series often see sales flatten once the anime season that pushed them ends, and Spy x Family’s last television cycle is well behind it. Holding a top-ten spot this deep into the run says the readership is still growing or at least holding steady in the United States.

It also keeps the franchise’s footprint wide at a moment when its next moves are unclear. The anime, the film and the manga all carry the same weight in the market, and the books keep doing the quiet work of expanding the audience between screen releases.
