Manimani Ononata’s light novel Boukensha License wo Hakudatsu sareta Ossan dakedo, Manamusume ga Dekita node Nonbiri Jinsei wo Ouka suru is getting a TV anime in January 2027. The official website has now confirmed the main cast, the production staff and a second teaser visual, along with a short promotional video.
Hiroki Yasumoto is voicing Douglas, the story’s veteran adventurer, and Yuka Iguchi is playing Rabi, the young daughter who reshapes his life. Yasumoto’s credits include Ghost in the Shell, while Iguchi is known for Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Who is making the anime
Yuki Inaba directs and also handles script and series composition. Kaori Yoshikawa is the character designer and chief animation director. The music comes from Shu Oh and Daiki Okuno, with Space Shower Music producing, and Studio Palette is the animation studio.
Inaba directed Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World Season II, so this is a familiar register for him: a fantasy story with a small central cast and a lot of world-building around it. Yoshikawa’s previous work includes KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World. The two have not shared a series before, which makes the look of the teaser the first real evidence of how this one will be staffed and shot.
Where the story comes from
Ononata began writing the adventure-fantasy series on the user-generated site Shousetsuka ni Narou in December 2017. SB Creative later picked it up for its GA Novel label, printing the first volume in August 2018 with illustrations by Choko Fuji. The fourth volume went on sale in October 2022.
A manga adaptation followed. Fumi Tadaura began drawing it on the Manga UP! website and app in November 2018, and SB Creative released the 14th volume on June 5. Square Enix publishes the manga in English on the global Manga UP! site, Comikey and BookWalker, so readers outside Japan already have several routes into the story.
The premise is a quiet reversal of the usual adventurer setup. Douglas loses his guild license, and rather than chasing the career he trained for, he settles into a life built around the daughter he takes in. The light novel’s full English title spells that out: I Lost My Adventurer’s License, but It’s Fine Because I Have an Adorable Daughter Now.
Where it sits in the Winter 2027 season
January 2027 is filling up with light-novel adaptations, and this one joins a crowded field that already includes titles like My Sword Saint Master Is Too Cute to Live With! and The Fledgling Demon Lord’s Starter Shop. What sets Douglas’s story apart is its tone. There is no dungeon crawl to win and no ranking to chase, just a man adjusting to a smaller, warmer life after his professional one falls apart.
Studio Palette will not need to carry the show on spectacle. The interesting question is whether the adaptation leans into the slow, domestic rhythm that made the source popular, or pushes the fantasy elements forward to compete with busier premieres in the same window.
What is still unknown
The teaser confirms the leads and the broad look, but it does not settle the obvious questions. The episode count has not been announced, no streaming platform has been confirmed for outside Japan, and there is no exact premiere date beyond the January 2027 window. More cast members will almost certainly follow as the season approaches.
Why it matters
This is a case where the adaptation has a built-in audience before it airs. The novel has been running for nearly nine years, the manga is up to 14 volumes and the English release is already underway, so the anime is arriving for readers who have been with the story for a while. For everyone else, it is a January 2027 fantasy that does not look like it wants to shout, and that is often where the better shows in a crowded season hide.
