The second season of I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World now has a teaser, a key visual and a date. Kadokawa released all three on Thursday, plus the cast and staff roster that will carry the show into a January 2027 broadcast.
The team behind season 2
Shin Itagaki returns to direct at Millepensee, the studio that animated the first season. Itagaki was the chief director last time, so the top of the production ladder is unchanged, and Hiromi Kimura is back for character design. UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS is again handling planning and production.
Most of the core staff carries over as well:
- Art directors: Hirofumi Sakagami, Kuniyuki Suzuki
- Art setting: Hiroshi Katō, Yuichi Asami
- Color design: Aiko Yamagami, Junko Nagaoka
- CG director: Baku Ikeda
- Editing: Haruka Nunokawa
- Sound directors: Ryōsuke Naya, Shin Itagaki
Two names are new. Arimasa Omi and Kotonari Hoashi take over as compositing directors of photography, and on the music side Akiyuki Tateyama is joined by SHIKI.
The cast
The announced cast is the group that voiced the leads the first time around: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yūya Tenjō, Akari Kitō as Kaori Hōjō, Kaori Maeda as Lexia von Arcelia, Ai Kakuma as Luna, Rina Hidaka as Yuti, and Marina Inoue as Kuro.
Keeping that lineup intact counts for a lot in a show like this. Cheat Skill runs on the gap between Yūya’s miserable life at home and the confidence he builds in the other world, and the performances do much of the work in selling that shift.
What the first season did
Season one premiered in April 2023 and ran for 13 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired and later added an English dub. A television special followed, streaming on March 29 and airing the next day.
The source material is Miku’s light novel series, illustrated by Rein Kuwashima. Yen Press publishes the novels and the manga adaptation in English. The franchise has 4 million copies in circulation when spinoffs are counted. There is also a browser game, Isekai de Cheat Skill o Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai o mo Musōsuru – Level Up wa Jinsei o Kaeta: Parallel Universe, which launched worldwide in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Korean on the G123 platform in July 2024.
The premise stays simple, which is part of why it travels. A door to another world opens for a boy who has been bullied his whole life, handing him cheat skills and a portal he can walk back through. He gets to be two different people, and the show is mostly about what he does with that.
Why the date matters
With a 2023 debut and a 13-episode run, this is one of the longer waits on the isekai calendar, and Kadokawa is dropping it straight into the winter stack. January 2027 is already crowded with new series, including I Lost My Adventurer’s License and I Am the Only One Not Attacked in a World of Zombies.
Anything past the debut month is still open. There is no episode count, no exact January week and no theme song announcement yet. For now the teaser and the key visual are the only moving parts we have, and both point to a production that has not drifted from the original.
