Wound & Bandage Anime Reveals Main Cast and January 9 Premiere

The anime adaptation of Umihoshi Nanai’s Wound & Bandage has a date. The show’s official website posted a teaser promotional video on Friday and confirmed the series will debut on January 9.

Hisako Kanemoto voices Riyo Washizu. Chikahiro Kobayashi plays Gō Kiritani. Those are the two leads, revealed alongside the teaser, which introduces the pair without giving away much of the plot.

Where and When It Airs

Wound & Bandage will air on ABC and TV Asahi’s Animazing!!! block, which runs Saturday nights at 26:00, effectively Sunday at 2:00 a.m. JST, starting January 9. AT-X broadcasts the first episode that same day at 11:00 p.m. ABEMA streams each episode half an hour after the ABC and TV Asahi airing.

Staff

Miyuki Ishida directs at J.C. Staff. Ishida directed I.Cinnamoroll and worked as an episode director on One Punch Man seasons 2 and 3. Susumu Yamakawa writes the scripts; his credits include all three seasons of The Way of the Househusband and Murai in Love. Natsuki Ōyama, who worked on Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?, designs the characters.

The Story

Wound & Bandage (Kizuguchi to Hōtai) is a romantic comedy with a yakuza premise. Riyo Washizu is the daughter of the leader of the yakuza organization that controls the Kanto region. Gō Kiritani, a young subordinate in that same organization, gets assigned as her caretaker. He expects a docile child. He gets someone with a very specific interest instead: Riyo likes watching strong people at their weakest.

The Source Manga

Umihoshi Nanai launched Wound & Bandage on Kodansha’s Comic Days app in August 2024. Kodansha released the fifth collected volume on July 16. Five volumes in about two years is a steady pace for a Comic Days title, which gives the anime room to adapt without running out of material.

Why It Matters

January 9 puts Wound & Bandage in one of the busiest windows of the year. Winter 2027 is already packed with adaptations, and a late-night slot on the Animazing!!! block gives the show a fixed television audience instead of a streaming-only launch. The Fable season 2 lands the same day, and Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? premieres two days earlier on January 7.

The premise is the draw. Yakuza rom-coms are a familiar lane, but the twist flips the usual dynamic: a sheltered boss’s daughter who gets a kick out of watching powerful men crumble. The teaser keeps things close to the vest, showing the leads and not much else. The staff is the more reassuring signal. J.C. Staff handles comedy well, and Yamakawa has written for The Way of the Househusband, which shares the same yakuza-comedy DNA.

It also keeps Kodansha’s Comic Days pipeline in the spotlight. The app has become a regular source of anime adaptations, much like Manchuria Opium Squad, and Wound & Bandage joins that line with a broadcast deal already in place before the show even airs.

For viewers outside Japan, ABEMA is handling streaming domestically. The announcement did not name an international partner.
