The anime adaptation of Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi (known in English as The Fake Alchemist) revealed its main cast, core staff and a first teaser promo on Friday. Passione is animating the series.
The announcement came from the show’s official website. What it did not include is a release date, so there is still no confirmed window for the series.

The split between chief director and director is worth noting. Takeo Takahashi has directed long-running fantasy and adventure work, and handing the day-to-day direction to Hijiri Sanpei while keeping Takahashi on oversight is a structure studios use when a project needs both creative vision and someone on top of the schedule. Passione has been busy this year, and how it allocates staff across its slate will shape what this show looks like.
About the manga
Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi is by Jirou Sugiura and Umemaru. Sugiura began drawing the fantasy series on pixiv in February 2020, and Kadokawa started serializing it on its ComicWalker service in June 2023. The first volume arrived in January 2024, and the fifth volume was published on February 20.
The series ranked 12th in the web manga category at the 2022 Next Manga Award. Yen Press licensed it in English in August 2025 and shipped the second volume on June 23.
Why it matters
This is a fairly young manga getting an adaptation with a recognizable staff roster and a clear promotional push. The teaser is short and the release window is still open, which usually means a premiere announcement is still some months away. For now, the value of this news is the talent list: Takahashi, Ihara and Takashina have all worked on titles with dedicated followings, and that combination is what will sell the show to viewers before a trailer with actual footage exists.
We will update this as soon as a premiere window or further cast additions are confirmed. For now, it joins a busy adaptation slate that already includes Winter 2027 titles such as Now That We Draw.
