Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru is getting a third season. The announcement came after the 12th and final episode of the second season aired on Thursday, with the official website also revealing an announcement visual.
The series is known in English as From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman. No premiere window, episode count or streaming date for season 3 has been announced yet.

Two consecutive seasons airing a year apart, followed immediately by a third-season confirmation, is a strong signal of confidence. Production committees do not usually greenlight the next entry on the day the previous one ends unless the numbers support it.
The source material
The anime adapts Shigeru Sagazaki’s fantasy adventure light novel, which began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in November 2020. Square Enix started publishing the light novel under its SQEX Novel imprint in April 2021 with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The 11th volume was released on August 6.
The series has a cumulative 11 million copies of its volumes in circulation, a figure that covers print and digital editions. Kazuki Satou’s manga adaptation began in Young Champion magazine in August 2021, and Akita Shoten shipped the ninth volume on June 26.
In English, J-Novel Club licensed the light novel in October 2023 and released the tenth volume on August 10. Yen Press licensed the manga in March 2024 and shipped the sixth volume on September 22.
Why it matters
The premise, an older swordsman who quietly outclasses everyone around him, is a familiar one, but the sales numbers explain the momentum. Eleven million copies puts the light novel comfortably in the tier where studios plan multiple seasons rather than treating an adaptation as a one-off experiment. Amazon Prime’s worldwide simulcast also means the show has a global audience that most single-season titles never build.
The main open question is scheduling. Passione is currently attached to multiple projects, including the newly announced Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi, so when season 3 actually arrives will depend on how the studio spreads its teams. We will update this article once a date is confirmed.
