The Takopi’s Original Sin compilation film has a new trailer, and it comes with the theme song. The official X account for the anime posted the video and a new visual on Friday, confirming that Tele performs “Rabyū” (Love You) for the film, which opens in Japan on November 27.
Tele is a returning name rather than a new hire. The artist performed the ending theme for the six-episode television anime in 2025, so the film keeps the same voice at the end of the story.
The full title is Takopii no Genzai -Arigatō, Mata Ashita-, which translates to Thank You, See You Tomorrow. That subtitle carries weight for anyone who finished the series.
What a compilation film does to a six-episode show
Recap films tend to fall into two groups: the ones that stitch episodes together with a couple of new shots, and the ones that reorganize the material into a different shape. With only six episodes to work from, the second approach is the only one that makes sense here. The pacing changes by necessity, and a new theme song gives the ending a weight the broadcast version did not have.
The film is a re-edit of all six episodes rather than a plain stitch job, and it adds new scenes, which the main trailer previews. Character designer Keita Nagahara drew the new key visual that came with it. How much of the film is new footage has still not been detailed.
The series it is compiling
Takopi’s Original Sin adapts Taizan 5’s manga, which ran on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ from December 2021 to March 2022 and was collected in two volumes. Viz Media publishes it in English. The setup reads like a children’s story until it very much does not: a small alien octopus named Takopi lands on Earth determined to spread happiness, meets a depressed fourth grader named Shizuka, and tries to fix her life with technology that can rewind time. The results are not what he intends.
The anime starred Kurumi Mamiya as Takopi and Reina Ueda as Shizuka Kuze, with Konomi Kohara as Marina and Anna Nagase as Azuma. Shinya Iino, who directed Dr. Stone and Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, directed and oversaw scripts. Keita Nagahara designed the characters, and ENISHIYA produced.
The six episodes debuted in June 2025 on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ABEMA and U-NEXT, among other services. In June this year the series won the Jury Award for a TV series at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Why the Annecy award helps a film
Annecy is the biggest animation festival on the calendar, and a jury prize there changes how a title gets discussed outside Japan. It stops being “the depressing one with the pink alien” and becomes a work that gets programmed at festivals and written about by people who do not cover anime seasonally.
A theatrical release in late November lands in the same year the series took that award, which is about as good a window as a re-release gets.
The manga’s record is odd for something so short. It was nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho Awards and the 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2023, won the Manga Kingdom Tottori award at the 51st Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 2022, and placed third on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list for male readers that year. Two volumes, and it still turns up on award lists half a decade on.
The practical details
The film opens in Japan on November 27. No international release has been announced, and the television series’ streaming partners have not said whether the film will follow the same route. That is the open question for viewers outside Japan.
What is confirmed is the date, the theme song and the subtitle. Everything else is still coming.
