Mahō no Shimai Lulutto Lilly (Magical Sisters Lulutto Lilly) has a main trailer for its second cours, and a return date to match. Bandai Namco Filmworks released the video on Thursday, confirming the second part will debut on October 4 at 10:30 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX.
The trailer also previews the new opening theme, “Swingin’ Magic,” performed by the K-pop girl group ILLIT. The song is a notable get for a magical girl series presented jointly by Bandai Namco Filmworks and Studio Pierrot.
Where and when to watch
The second part begins on Tokyo MX on October 4 and will also run on ABC TV, TV Aichi, BS NTV and AT-X. The series is structured as two cours with a break in between; the first part premiered on April 5.
Internationally, the show has one of the more fragmented streaming lineups of the season. It is available through Ani-One and Bahamut in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan; Anime Generation and Man-ga (television broadcast) in Italy; Anime Box in Spain; and various services in Taiwan. In the United States and Canada, Tubi streams the series.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has also been posting full episodes on its YouTube channel with subtitles. The first two episodes went up on April 18 with 16 subtitle languages, and the run continued through the 12th episode on June 27, expanding to 26 languages. As of writing, full episodes are not available in Southeast Asia.
New and returning cast
The second part adds three previously announced cast members: Miyari Nemoto as Asahi Araki, Yusuke Shirai as Mucchi, and Yūko Natsuyoshi as Shiromofu. The main duo remains Lilly Konpeto, voiced by May Tachibana, and Lulu Mashū, voiced by Nao Ojika.
Those two voice actors also perform as the in-universe idol unit Lulutto Lilly, which handles the new ending theme, “Dream a la Mode.” That dual role — characters and performers — is part of how the production ties the anime’s music to the story.
There is also a piece of casting aimed squarely at genre veterans. Takako Ohta and Yū Mizushima, who voiced Yū Morisawa / Creamy Mami and Toshio Ohtomo in the Magical Angel Creamy Mami franchise, appear in the anime as guest cast members.
Staff behind the series
Shintarō Dōge directs at Studio Pierrot and is credited for the original character designs. Yūko Kakihara, whose credits include Blue Box and both the 2022 and 2024 versions of Urusei Yatsura, supervises and writes the series scripts. Character design is handled by Namiko Tori, Hirono Nishiki and Asami Sodeyama.
Why it matters
Magical girl series have leaned heavily on nostalgia in recent years, and Lulutto Lilly is doing it openly — casting the original Creamy Mami leads as guests is about as direct as that gesture gets. Pairing that with a K-pop opening from ILLIT shows the production is also chasing a current audience rather than only the older one.
As a two-cours show with a built-in break, it has had time to build its following before the second half arrives, and the YouTube rollout in 26 languages gives it a wider reach than most Pierrot titles get at this stage. Whether the second part converts that into a real hit is the open question.
