hololive is getting its first full TV anime, and it isn’t the show most people would have predicted. Kadokawa and COVER Corporation announced hololive: Let’s Head Out! during a special livestream on September 23, confirming both the title and the full cast.
The Japanese title is Odekake hololive, shortened to the keyword “Odeholo” that the project had been teasing. And rather than a lore-heavy story about virtual idols saving the world, this one is a slice-of-life travel omnibus. The members head out around Japan on their days off, eat local food, and mostly just enjoy themselves.
What the anime is actually about
The official description leans into the gap between the on-screen personas and the people behind them. Normally you see these girls streaming. On their days off, it turns out, they like to go places.
“All across Japan, going here and there from season to season, eating delicious food, having lots of laughs while heading to yet unknown places! An omnibus travel story of their extremely lively, full-filled outings!”
The tagline the production is running with is simple: “Where shall we go today?” No plot synopsis beyond that, which tells you a lot about what kind of show this is going to be.
The 29 members in the cast
The main visual features all 29 participating talents, and the cast list spans pretty much the whole history of the agency:

That’s a lot of characters to fit into one series, and it’s the main reason the omnibus format makes sense. A single continuous story would have to sideline most of them. Episodic outings let the show rotate through the roster instead.

Studio KAI is a sensible pick here. The studio has already worked on earlier animated hololive projects and music videos, so it knows how these characters are supposed to move and behave. Handing the agency’s first proper TV series to a team that has already spent time with the material is a safer bet than bringing in an outside studio to figure it out from scratch.
Why the travel angle works
Honestly, this is the right call. The biggest risk with a VTuber anime is trying to build a dramatic plot around characters whose appeal is their personality, not a scripted backstory. Travel episodes sidestep that entirely. The show gets to be about chemistry and small moments, which is exactly what the audience already shows up for on stream.
It also doubles as a tourism showcase, which is a very hololive thing to do — the agency has been leaning into regional collaborations for a while now.
Release date
There’s no premiere date yet. The project is part of hololive’s 10th anniversary celebration, but neither Kadokawa nor COVER has announced a window, episode count, or streaming platform.
