Kadokawa released the full promotional video for the Isshiki-san Wants to Know About Love anime on Saturday, and it answered two questions at once. Cosplayer Enako sings the opening theme, “Gō Yoku Koi o Seisu!?”, and she also joins the cast as the nurse Nene Haneshita.
Enako built her following as a cosplayer, so putting her behind the microphone and in the recording booth for the same show is a neat bit of casting. Her character is a nurse at the hospital where the two leads keep turning up. That is about all the anime has said about Haneshita so far.
The show debuts in January 2027 on AT-X, Kansai TV and Tokyo MX. An advance screening of the first two episodes runs in Tokyo on December 13, a few weeks before broadcast. No international streaming partner has been named yet. Kadokawa first announced the adaptation in October 2025, so the production has been public for about a year.
Who is in it
Riko Akechi plays Isshiki Rinna Milford, the title character. Shūichirō Umeda is Meishi Rokutanda. The supporting cast runs Haruki Ishiya as Danjuro Iwata, Takuma Nagatsuka as Masato Nakatani, Hiiro Ishibashi as Chikai Matsumoto and Yū Wakui as Rena Yamakawa.
Studio and staff
Sakura Create animates the series. Kazuya Komai directs, and his episode-director credits include Tenjho Tenge, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad and Pita-Ten. Deko Akao handles series composition after Komi Can’t Communicate, Noragami and The Case Study of Vanitas. Shōhei Hamaguchi adapts the character designs.
The rest of the crew: Noriyasu Murata on prop design, Satomi Nakajima as CG director, Studio Twinkle on CG production, Akiko Saito as color key artist, Yasutada Kato as art director, Daisuke Horino as director of photography, Yūsuke Ueno on editing, Masanori Tsuchiya as sound director and MICHIRU composing. Kadokawa produces the music.
The manga it comes from
Ayune Araragi’s manga has run in Kadokawa’s Monthly Shōnen Ace since June 2020. The tenth collected volume shipped on May 25, and the eleventh is scheduled for December 24. The series did not start there. An earlier version, Rinna Keibu wa Kokyū ga Dekinai, ran in Ichijinsha’s Monthly Comic Rex from October 2016 to December 2017.
Yen Press publishes the manga in English and put out volume one on October 13. The license was first announced under the title Ms. Isshiki Wants to Know About Love, then switched to the name the anime uses.
What the story is
Isshiki joined the police at 17 and earned a reputation as the serious one in the room. Romance is the single subject she never studied. Yen Press sums up the premise this way: she has the respect of everyone around her, but she has not been herself at work lately, and every time Rokutanda is nearby she gets flustered and slips up.
Rokutanda is a kind detective with poor timing and worse luck, and every attempt he makes at normal conversation goes sideways. Their solution is a fake relationship run like a case file: they test reactions, compare notes, and try to work out what other people are feeling.
The comedy comes from the gap between how competent these two are at work and how lost they are everywhere else. Anime Corner’s earlier teaser coverage put the premiere in the same January 2027 window, so the schedule has not moved since spring.
Why it matters
Shōnen Ace has been pushing rom-com adaptations hard, and this one arrives with a translated manga already on shelves in English, which is not always the case for a January premiere. Enako’s involvement gives Kadokawa a promotional hook that travels on social media better than a staff announcement does.
The January slate is already crowded. I Lost My Adventurer’s License also lands that month, and Wound & Bandage starts on January 9. Both are chasing the same viewers.
The December 13 screening means the first two episodes will be in front of an audience before the year ends, so expect early impressions and a second round of marketing in the first week of January.
