Draw This, Then Die! is getting a second season. The official website for the anime of Minoru Toyoda’s manga (Kore Kaite Shine) announced the renewal, which came just after the first season’s 12th and final episode aired on Friday.
The announcement did not include a premiere window, episode count or streaming confirmation for the new season.

The first season premiered on July 3 on NTV’s now one-hour “Friday Anime Night” programming block at 11:30 p.m. JST (10:30 a.m. EDT), and Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired in Japan.
The manga behind it
Minoru Toyoda, also known for Love Roma, launched Kore Kaite Shine in Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine in November 2021, and the series is also available on Sunday Webry. Its ninth compiled volume shipped on June 12.
The manga’s award record is a big part of why the adaptation drew attention in the first place. It won an award at the 70th Shogakukan Manga Awards in January 2025 and took the 16th Manga Taisho in 2023. It also ranked sixth among manga for male readers in the 2023 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook.
Why it matters
Draw This, Then Die! is a series about making manga, which makes its reception a small bellwether for how the industry portrays itself on screen. The renewal came fast, on the same weekend as the finale, which usually indicates a production committee that was satisfied with performance and had already planned for more.
Because the first season ended after 12 episodes, a second season will need to pick up further into Toyoda’s run. The ninth volume shipped in June, so there is enough material to adapt, but Shogakukan and Shinei Animation have not said how much of it the new season will cover.
The bigger question is the block. The first season benefited from NTV’s Friday Anime Night slot, which is now two hours and also carries The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 from October 2. Whether the second season keeps that slot, or moves, will shape how quickly it reaches viewers outside Japan.
Another reason to expect continuity: Akagi directed Teasing Master Takagi-san and The Dangers in My Heart, adaptations that share a gentle, character-driven register, and Fukuda worked on those same projects. That pairing is well suited to a manga-about-manga story, which lives on the working relationships between its characters rather than on spectacle, and it suggests the second season’s tone will not shift much from the first.
