My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis Light Novels Get a TV Anime

Kadokawa has greenlit another light novel adaptation. At the “Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026” livestream on Saturday, October 3, the publisher announced that Toshimichi Uzō’s My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis (Soshiki no Shukuteki to Kekkon Shitara Mecha Amai) is getting a television anime, one of a batch of reveals that included the Rebuild World anime’s new staff and key visual.

The announcement came with the main staff and a celebration illustration drawn by the light novel’s illustrator, Kewi Hayashi. The staff also revealed several pieces of character line art.

Who is making it

Atsushi Nigorikawa (A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring, Zenryoku Usagi) is directing the anime at Ankichi Kobo, with production credited to EMT Squared in cooperation with Ankichi Kobo. Keiichirō Ōchi (The Quintessential Quintuplets, Summer Pockets) is overseeing the series scripts, and Yūki Nakano (I’m Quitting Heroing, A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring) is designing the characters.

Nigorikawa and Nakano previously worked together on A Journey Through Another World, so the pairing is a proven one for this kind of material, and Ōchi’s résumé leans hard toward romantic comedy and emotional ensemble work, which fits a married-couple premise.

What the story is

The series follows married couple Rōshi Saikawa and Ritsuka Saikawa (née Nagira). Years earlier, the two belonged to rival organizations: Rōshi was nicknamed the “Feather Hunter” and Ritsuka the “White Demon.” Although they hated each other, they fell in love after their organizations disbanded. Despite being married, the two have never had sex — something Rōshi has become increasingly conscious of.

It is a domestic romantic comedy with a former-assassin hook, a combination that has done well in the light novel market precisely because the premise promises both humor and a slow-burn payoff. The characters are adults, which also sets it apart from the school-setting majority in the genre.

The books behind it

The light novel is written by Toshimichi Uzō and illustrated by Kewi Hayashi. ASCII Media Works began publishing it under its Dengeki Bunko imprint in October 2023, and four volumes have been released as of August 2025.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Shiime began serialization in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh magazine on November 27, 2024, and has been compiled into two tankōbon volumes as of July 27, 2026. The manga is licensed in English by One Peace Books, which will release the first volume on March 16, 2027.

So English-language readers have a clear path to the story in both formats, though the manga is still a year out from its first English volume.

Why it matters

The Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival is one of the label’s biggest annual events, and this year it produced a cluster of adaptation announcements in a single afternoon. My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis is one of the more straightforwardly commercial titles in that batch — a romantic comedy with an established reader base and a hook that translates easily to a synopsis.

The risk with these adaptations is usually production capacity rather than demand, and EMT Squared and Ankichi Kobo will need to deliver on the visual charm that carries the genre. No premiere date, episode count or cast has been announced.
