Toonami Adds Wind Breaker, Gachiakuta and Get Jiro! to Its October Lineup

Adult Swim’s Toonami block is adding two recent Crunchyroll series to its U.S. lineup. The network revealed on Friday that it will air Wind Breaker and Gachiakuta starting on October 10 and October 17, respectively — effectively October 11 and 18 for viewers watching past midnight.

Toonami is also adding the animated series Get Jiro! on October 10, where it will occupy the opening slot of the night.

For the October 17 schedule, Get Jiro! leads at 12:00 a.m. EDT, followed by Wind Breaker at 12:30, Gachiakuta at 1:00, One Piece at 1:30, IGPX at 2:00, Lazarus at 2:30, Blue Exorcist at 3:00, and a replay of Get Jiro! at 3:30.

What the two new shows are

Wind Breaker adapts Satoru Nii’s manga. The anime premiered in April 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it aired alongside an English dub. A second season followed in April 2025, and Crunchyroll again carried both the subtitled run and a dub.

Gachiakuta adapts Kei Urana’s manga. Its anime premiered in Japan in July 2025 on CBC, TBS and 26 other channels, with Crunchyroll handling the simulcast and later an English dub. The series has also been confirmed for a second season.

Wind Breaker centres on Haruka Sakura, a first-year student who transfers to Furin High and joins the school’s Bofurin crew as they defend their town from outside threats — a setup that leans as much on camaraderie as on fights. Gachiakuta, meanwhile, follows Rudo, a boy from a slum who is cast into a vast pit and drawn into the world of the Cleaners, where discarded objects carry their own power. Both series pair fast, kinetic action with a cast-driven story, which is the kind of show Toonami has historically done well with.

Both are recent enough that a broadcast slot is a meaningful second window. Crunchyroll’s streaming-first model means many viewers have already seen them, but Toonami reaches a cable and late-night audience that does not overlap perfectly with subscription streaming.

Why it matters

Toonami has spent the past few years rebuilding a weekly action lineup around a mix of long-running staples and newer pickups. Pairing Wind Breaker and Gachiakuta — two action-heavy series with strong visual identities — gives the block a block of contemporary titles rather than relying only on catalogue programming.

The scheduling also shows how anime licensing has shifted. Series that debut on a streaming service can now cycle onto a traditional broadcast block within a year or so, and Toonami has become a regular destination for that second life. The block itself dates back to 1997 on Cartoon Network and was relaunched on Adult Swim in 2012, so it now mixes newer pickups with long-runners like One Piece — the same blend visible on the October 17 schedule.

Adding two simulcast-era titles in consecutive weeks is a deliberate attempt to keep the block current. For fans who prefer watching weekly on a schedule rather than bingeing, the October dates are worth marking.

How to watch

The premieres fall on consecutive Saturdays: Wind Breaker from October 10 and Gachiakuta from October 17, both on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. Viewers who would rather stream first can find both series, in subtitled and dubbed form, on Crunchyroll.
