Takeichi Abaraya has a new series. The creator behind the Odd Taxi manga adaptations announced on Wednesday that Rematch With You will begin on Akita Shoten’s YanChan Web later this month.
What the new series is about
Going by Abaraya’s own post, the setup is a horror action story about Nezu, a third-rate spirit medium, and Arata, the ghost of a former world martial arts champion. That is a strange pairing on paper, which is probably the point. Odd Taxi’s manga ran on conversation more than action, and a medium who talks to the dead gives that instinct somewhere obvious to go.
This is not a cold start. A dōjin version of the manga, titled “My last Match With You”, was sold at Comitia in November 2025, and the series already has its own X account set up ahead of the launch. Moving a self-published book into a serialized web slot is a familiar route for creators who want to test a premise before committing to a magazine schedule, and Abaraya took it.
A short resume, but a specific one
For anyone who only knows Abaraya from Odd Taxi, the resume is short but specific. The Odd Taxi manga adaptation launched in Darupana, the web offshoot of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Superior, in January 2021, and wrapped in June 2022 with five collected volumes. Denpa and KUMA licensed that manga in English and plan to start releasing it with the first volume in May 2027.
Then came RoOT/Route of Odd Taxi, a spinoff that Abaraya launched on the same web platform. It ran from February 2023 to April 2025 and produced six volumes, one more than the adaptation that preceded it. That spinoff also turned into a live-action television series in April 2024, which Crunchyroll streamed. A manga that started as a tie-in to an original anime ended up spawning its own live-action show, which is a rare enough loop that it is worth remembering when the next Abaraya series gets optioned.
When English readers will get it
Where Rematch With You lands matters for how fast English readers will see it. YanChan Web is Akita Shoten’s web manga site, and no English license has been announced for this one. Odd Taxi’s manga took years to reach English print, and its first volume is not out until May 2027. Anyone hoping to read Rematch With You in English should expect a wait, and should not expect an official announcement this month.
Other recent launches show how much the route varies. Chanta’s Noro-Noro Puku-Puku went straight to Shonen Jump+, while Nightmare of Oveja Negra arrived on Shonen Jump+ and MANGA Plus on the same day. YanChan Web is a smaller platform than either, which usually means a longer road to a translation.
Why the dōjin route matters
The dōjin connection is the part that makes this interesting. Comitia is a convention built around original, self-published manga, and a title that sold there in 2025 now has a publisher and a launch date. That path, from a table at a convention to a serialized slot on a publisher’s website, is one of the few remaining signs that the Japanese manga pipeline still has room for creators working outside the magazine system.
Why it matters
Abaraya is two for two on Odd Taxi tie-ins, and this is a series that stands outside that franchise. If it holds an audience on YanChan Web, a print volume often follows, and a license announcement tends to come with it. If it does not, the dōjin edition stays the only version, which is how a lot of good web manga ends up.
The series starts in late November 2026. Abaraya’s X account and the official Rematch With You account are posting updates until then.
