Looks like a Job for a Maid! Light Novels Get TV Anime Adaptation

Another light novel is making the jump to television. Earth Star Novel announced on Thursday that Yasuaki Mikami’s Looks like a Job for a Maid! The Tales of a Dismissed Supermaid (Maid Nara Tōzen Desu. Nureginu o Kiserareta Bannō Maid-san wa Tabi ni Deru Koto ni Shimashita) is getting a television anime adaptation.

No studio, cast or premiere window has been announced yet, so the confirmation is currently the main detail: the series is being adapted, and the announcement came from the publisher rather than a leaked listing.

What the story is about

The premise follows Nina, a plain young maid who works in the house of Count Mirkwood and considers that world to be her entire life — until a false accusation forces her out onto the streets. Jobless and with nowhere to turn, she decides to set out on her first solo journey.

Nina, however, is not an ordinary maid. She is a “supermaid,” and her talents quickly prove indispensable to the people she meets: Emily, a mage who cannot use magic; Astrid, a brilliant inventor whose experiments never quite work; and Tien, an orphan who cannot seem to keep a meal down. Back at the Mirkwood household, meanwhile, things go awry in her absence.

The pitch is a travel-and-hospitality fantasy built around competence rather than combat, which is a familiar shape in the current light novel wave but one that has found an audience.

From web novel to print series

Mikami first published the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2021. Earth Star Entertainment began publishing the novels with illustrations by Kinta in July 2022. The ninth volume ships on October 15, which gives the print run a steady, healthy cadence.

The series also has a manga adaptation. Ayahito Kumagai launched it on Earth Star Entertainment’s Comic Earth Star website in October 2022. The first compiled volume shipped in April 2023, and the seventh volume followed on May 13. J-Novel Club is releasing the manga in English.

Why it matters

Earth Star Entertainment has become one of the more reliable feeders of light novels into anime, and a series with an established nine-volume print run and a long-running manga adaptation arrives with the kind of material base producers like. The interesting open question now is how the adaptation handles its episodic, travel-driven structure — the cast of misfits Nina collects along the way makes the series naturally suited to a weekly format, but it also means the anime will need to decide early how quickly it moves through the source.

Fans of light-novel adaptations have plenty to track this season: Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden added four cast members ahead of its October 6 premiere, and The Final-Boss Prince Is Somehow Obsessed With the Chubby Villainess has a January 2027 debut.

We will update this story when a studio, cast list or release date is announced.
