The newest Sgt. Frog anime is now streaming in English. Crunchyroll added Keroro Gunsō ☆, an all-new Sgt. Frog television series, to its service with English subtitles, streaming it under the title KERORO☆. The show is available worldwide except in Asia.
It is the first time the rebooted series has been offered to international viewers, and it arrives with a completely new voice cast for the franchise.
Where to watch KERORO☆
Crunchyroll is the streaming home for the new series outside Asia, with English subtitles. That distinguishes it from the earlier Sgt. Frog anime, which Crunchyroll first added to its catalog in 2021. This is a fresh production rather than a catalog addition, so viewers should look for KERORO☆ specifically.
A new cast and production team
The new series features an all-new cast for the franchise, a change from the recent theatrical film, which brought back returning voice actors from earlier installments. Nobuhiro Kondō serves as chief director, with Akihiko Sano directing the series at BN Pictures, with production cooperation from Bridge and AISLE. Toshimitsu Takeuchi is overseeing the series scripts, Hatsue Nakayama is designing the characters, and Kan Sawada is composing the music.
The team has deep experience with long-running, comedy and card-battle series. Kondō and Takeuchi have both worked on multiple seasons of Shōnen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan and on Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, while Sano’s credits include Farmagia.
The franchise is in the middle of a comeback
The new series follows a 20th-anniversary film project. Shin Gekijōban ☆ Keroro Gunsō Fukkatsu Shite Sokkō Chikyū Metsubō no Kiki de Arimasu! opened in Japan on June 26 and ranked at number four in its opening weekend, earning 150,809,200 yen (about US$927,900) in its first three days. That result showed there was still an audience for the property two decades on.
The original anime, based on Mine Yoshizaki’s manga, ran for 358 episodes and aired from 2004 to 2011, spawning five feature films. It has had a long and tangled English-language history: Funimation released two “seasons” on DVD after ADV Films licensed but never released the anime, and Discotek later put out all 358 episodes across successive SD Blu-ray volumes beginning in 2021, with seasons 5–7 arriving in 2024. Tokyopop published 20 volumes of the manga in North America before shutting down in 2011.
Why it matters
For fans who remember Sergeant Keroro’s failed invasion of Earth, the reboot plus a global Crunchyroll release means the series is genuinely accessible again rather than locked to scattered home-video releases. For newcomers, it is a low-stakes way to sample a comedy that has quietly been one of the longer-running gag franchises in anime.
The premise remains the same: Keroro leads a platoon sent to conquer Earth, but after the invaders learn how much humans enjoy dissecting their comrades, the mission collapses and he is left wielding a vacuum cleaner more often than a weapon — a far cry from the glory of battle, even if he still dreams of reassembling his troops.
