Sgt. Frog’s New Keroro Gunsou Anime Adds Three Cast Members on Premiere Day

The new Sgt. Frog anime added three cast members on the same day it premiered. The official Keroro Gunsou☆ X account announced the additions on October 3, when the series began airing on TV Tokyo at 9:30 a.m.

Kana Ichinose voices Angol Mois, Chiwa Saitou takes the role of Aki Hinata, and Satomi Arai narrates. Ichinose is best known recently for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Saitou returns to a character she has played in the franchise before, and Arai’s credits include Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-.

The timing is notable: rather than spacing announcements out across the season, the production revealed the three roles as the first episode aired, putting fresh names in front of viewers right away.

Who is making the new series

Toshihiko Sano is directing at Bandai Namco Pictures. Sano’s prior work includes Farmagia. Toshimitsu Takeuchi, who handled Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to, is writing the series composition. Hatsue Nakayama, who worked on guest character design for Fairy Tail: Final Series, is designing the characters, and Kan Sawada of Yowamushi Pedal is composing the music.

Bandai Namco Pictures taking the lead marks a change from the franchise’s earlier television run, which was produced by Sunrise. For a revival of a long-running comedy, a new studio and a new directing and writing team are the clearest signal that this is a fresh production rather than a direct continuation.

About Sgt. Frog

Mine Yoshizaki began the Keroro Gunsou manga in Shonen Ace in November 1999. Kadokawa published the 35th collected volume in December 2025, and VIZ Media licensed the series under its VIZ Select imprint for digital English release back in December 2014.

The property is best known for its long anime run. Produced by Sunrise, the original television adaptation aired 358 episodes from spring 2004 to spring 2011. A short anime followed in spring 2014. The franchise also built a theatrical following, beginning with the first film in March 2006 and continuing through a run of sequels.

The premise — a squad of alien frog-like invaders who end up living with a Japanese family and largely failing at world domination — has kept the series going for more than two decades, and it is the reason a new adaptation can premiere with an audience already in place.

Why it matters

Announcing cast on premiere day is a small but telling choice. It suggests the show wants to be discussed as it airs, not just at a marketing event months earlier, and it gives returning fans a reason to re-tune in for the first episode. For newcomers, the names attached — including a lead from one of the biggest recent anime, Frieren — are a useful entry point.

Revivals of long-dormant comedy franchises have become a recurring theme in recent anime seasons, and Keroro Gunsou☆ is one of the more established names among them. Whether the new team can recapture the longevity of the 2004 run is the open question, but the first episode is now out and the main cast is on the record.
