A second season of Berserk of Gluttony is coming in 2027, and the production has locked in its staff. A teaser promotional video released on Friday confirmed the returning cast, the returning crew, and one notable change at the top.
Kenichi Ishikura (D.C.III ~Da Capo III~, Sakura Trick) is directing the new season at the studio ACGT. Tetsuya Yanagisawa, who directed the first season, stays on as overall director.
Returning staff and cast
Mariko Kunisawa returns to write the series scripts, and Takafumi Furusawa is designing the characters again. Crunchyroll will stream the season.
The main cast is unchanged: Ryōta Ōsaka as Fate Graphite, Tomokazu Seki as Greed, Hisako Tōjō as Roxy Heart, Misato Matsuoka as Myne, Hitomi Sekine as Eris, and Takehito Koyasu as Aaron.
Where it came from
The anime adapts the light novel series by Ichika Isshiki and illustrator fame, published in Japan as Bōshoku no Berserk: Ore Dake Level to Iu Gainen wo Toppa Suru. The first season aired in October 2023, and Crunchyroll streamed it with an English dub.
The story centers on Fate Graphite, a man cursed with the skill “Gluttony” who is always starving and never satisfied. He kills a dying thief, devours the man’s strength and soul, and the real hunger wakes up. Learning to control that power is the whole arc.
Isshiki first posted the series on Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The first novel volume with fame’s illustrations arrived in November 2017, and Micro Magazine later republished the series in a larger bunko format. Daisuke Takino’s manga adaptation launched on Micro Magazine’s Comic Ride site in April 2018. Seven Seas Entertainment releases both the novels and the manga in English.
Why it matters
A change of director is worth noting for a sequel, though it usually reflects scheduling rather than dissatisfaction. Handing the day-to-day work to a new director while the original stays on as overall director is a common way to keep a first season’s look and bring in fresh hands at the same time. The cast staying intact matters more to anyone who watched the 2023 run, since Fate’s voice and Greed’s bickering are most of the show’s appeal.
Yanagisawa has stayed busy since the first season. He is directing The Remarried Empress, which TROYCA is animating for 2027.
