Aki Irie’s manga Go with the Clouds, North by Northwest is getting a TV anime that will premiere in 2027 on TBS and stream worldwide exclusively on Netflix. The official website began streaming the first promotional video on Friday and confirmed that Tomohiro Ōno will voice the lead, Kei Miyama.
The site also posted a new visual alongside the announcement.
What it is
The story takes place in Iceland, at the far northern edge of the map. Kei Miyama is a 17-year-old with three secrets: he can talk to cars, he cannot handle pretty girls, and he works as a private investigator. His cases range from tracking down a beloved lost dog to reuniting a woman with a man she fell for at first sight, until one case turns personal and sends him searching for his own younger brother.
It is a quiet, wandering series with less of a plot engine than a mood, which makes it an unusual pick for a Netflix exclusive.
The manga’s path to the screen
Irie, also known for Ran and the Gray World, launched the manga in 2016 in the magazine Harta. It later moved to Kadokawa’s Aokishi after that magazine launched. Aokishi stopped serializing the series in February 2025, and a new company, Yukiwarisō, announced in October 2025 that it would continue publishing it.
The first collected volume of the manga’s “second series,” which restarts the numbering as a continuation of the original, shipped on April 30. The original run went to seven volumes in Japan, with the seventh released in 2024.
Vertical licensed the manga in English in 2018, and Kodansha USA Publishing now releases it.
Why it matters
Casting is the only production news so far, so the studio and most of the staff are still unknown. What is clear is the distribution plan: a TBS broadcast in Japan with Netflix handling the rest of the world. For a slow, character-driven manga that spends most of its time abroad, that pairing gives it a real shot at the international audience it always seemed written for.
