The television anime of Rokuro Uraji’s novel series Zombie no Afureta Sekai de Ore Dake ga Osowarenai is set to debut in January 2027 and will air on the premium channel AT-X. The official website released the main promotional video, a key visual, two more cast members, and the theme song details on Saturday.
RetBear performs the opening song “No Reaction,” and Itsuka▶ (Itsuka Saisei) performs the ending song “Tsukikage.”
Cast and staff
Rikako Ito joins as Tokiko Kurose, and Marie Miyake joins as Sayaka Makiura. They star alongside Wataru Katō as Yūsuke Takemura and Yuno Azuma as Mitsuki Fujino.
Kazuya Fujishiro (Dropkick on My Devil!, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, Cells at Work! Code Black episode director) is directing at acca effe and Frontier Engine. Yasushi Hirano (City Hunter, The Brave Fighter of Legend Da-Garn) is handling the series scripts, with Kayo Shimoyama and Makuto Okimiru writing scripts and Megumi Ishihara (Fate/stay night, Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku) designing the characters. Tadashi Jinbo (2026 High School! Kimengumi, Uma Yuru) is the sound director at Bisei, and ISAO is composing the music at Frontier Works.
What the story is
The premise flips the usual setup on its head. The world is suddenly overrun with zombies, and for no stated reason the protagonist, Takemura, is the one person they never attack. In a zombie movie, that immunity would make him the hero. Here, he mostly uses it to do whatever he wants.
The result is a panic story with the hero’s role deliberately left empty. That gap is the joke, and the promotional video leans into it rather than hiding it.
A long road to screen
The source material has been around for more than a decade. Uraji posted the story on the R18 section of the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2013 and ended it in 2017. Frontier Works published three volumes with art by Saburō between 2016 and 2017.
Chihiro Masuda launched a manga adaptation in June 2021, and Frontier Works released the fifth volume on August 5. A spinoff manga by Robo Kondō, Zombie no Afureta Sekai de Ore Dake ga Osowarenai Tokiko IF STORY, began on the Comic CMOA site in October 2025, and its first volume also shipped on August 5.
The anime was first announced for this year, so the January 2027 date is a small slip rather than a surprise.
Why it matters
The manga and the long-running web novel give the show an audience before it airs, which is why a few extra months are unlikely to cost it much. The winter season will be crowded, but this does not look like a show competing for the same viewers as the big action titles. The art in the promo goes for dim, gritty lighting over flash, and that matches the self-interested streak running through the source.
