Netflix dropped a new sneak peek for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on September 22, and the clip finally shows what the new season looks like in motion. The scene teases an escape from an Arasaka building — thrown together with a line that sets the tone: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
More importantly, the release date is already locked in. Here’s everything confirmed so far.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 release date
The series debuts on October 20 on Netflix. The first episode had an early premiere screening at Anime Expo on July 3, so a chunk of the fandom has technically already seen it.
That puts it right at the front of the Fall 2026 season, and it topped the most anticipated anime ranking for the season in a recent community poll.
Who’s making it

Ikarashi is a notable choice because this is his directorial debut. He worked on the first series as a storyboard artist, animation director, animator, and prop designer, so he’s not an outsider — he knows how the original was put together. Kanno also returns after serving as an animation director and key animator on season one, and Sztybor and Otsuka are both back in the same roles.
Keeping the core creative team intact matters here. A big part of why the first season landed was its specific look and pacing, and swapping that out would have been the fastest way to break the follow-up.
Theme songs
This is where things get interesting. The opening theme is The Cure’s 1978 track “10:15 Saturday Night,” while the ending theme is Petite Meller’s “Watson.” Rapper RICO NASTY also wrote and performed “YOU CAN’T RUN FROM ME,” which appeared in the second teaser trailer.
Using a 48-year-old post-punk song as an anime opening is a bold move, but it fits the Cyberpunk brief almost too well. The original leaned heavily on moody, atmospheric tracks, and this continues that tradition instead of chasing whatever is trending.
Where the series comes from
The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, animated by Studio Trigger, launched on Netflix in September 2022 and became one of the more surprising crossover hits of the decade. It’s based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 game, which in turn came from Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG series.
There’s a prequel manga too. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, from artist Asano and writer Bartosz Sztybor, launched on the Comic Alive+ website in December 2024 and is being localized into seven languages, with Dark Horse handling the English print release.
Home video and the Blu-ray set
If you want the first season on disc, Aniplex of America is putting out a complete Blu-ray set in North America on October 28 — about a week after season two hits streaming. Anime Limited and Plaion Pictures are handling Europe, while Sugoi Co covers Australia and New Zealand.
The short version
October 20 on Netflix. Kai Ikarashi directing, with The Cure as the opening theme. The original team is largely back, the release date is firm, and there’s a fresh trailer to prove it’s real. For a sequel that fans waited years for, that’s about as clean a rollout as you can ask for.
