The Black Summoner manga has ended. The final chapter, the series’ 200th, is out now, and publisher Overlap will ship the last collected volume on October 20. Comic Gardo, where the series has run since 2018, confirmed the ending through its website and official X account.
Ammo drew the manga, which adapts Mayoi’s light novel series of the same name. The final book, volume 26, closes a run that started in January 2018. Six years is a long stretch for a web manga on a platform that mostly hosts adaptations, and most series in that lane slow down or stall long before they reach a rounding-off point like this one.
What Black Summoner is about
The premise is pure power fantasy, and it does not pretend otherwise. Kelvin is transmigrated to another world and trades his memories for new abilities. His first follower turns out to be the goddess who pulled him there. He then works out that fighting is what he actually enjoys, and the story follows him and his allies as they take on one strong opponent after another.
Overlap publishes the light novels with illustrations by Kurogin. Mayoi began posting the original story on the user-generated site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2014, and it finished there in 2024. The novel run reached its 23rd volume on March 26. Between the two versions, the story has been running in some form for more than a decade, and the manga followed it for six of those years.
How to read it in English
J-Novel Club holds the license for both the novels and the manga, and releases both in English digitally. Yen Press, through its J-Novel Club imprint, puts out the manga in print.
The light novels also inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation in 2022. That is the only animated version the series has had, so readers who came in through the show have had the source material waiting for them ever since.
Why the ending matters
Endings are worth noting for a simple reason: they are rare. Long-running web manga often trail off rather than finish, and a series that runs for six years and then stops on its own terms is the exception. Black Summoner also sits in a crowded lane. Isekai adaptations launch constantly, and most never build enough of a readership to justify 26 volumes.
The October 20 release gives English readers a clear target too. Volume 26 is the last one, so anyone collecting the set now knows where it stops. Overlap’s Japanese release is now closed, which means the series will not add another book, and the October 20 volume is the one that completes the shelf.
Black Summoner is not the only Comic Gardo title in the news. Jun Miura launched Moto Shinryu, a new manga on the same site, earlier this month. And for other series wrapping up right now, we covered You Are a Four Leaf Clover, which ends on October 15.
