Goddess of Victory: Nikke is getting a second manga. The official X account for Kadokawa’s Dengeki Maoh magazine announced on Saturday that a new official adaptation is on the way from artist Yokoshima Penguin, with a winter debut planned.
The announcement lands just ahead of the game’s fourth anniversary. Goddess of Victory: Nikke launched globally on iOS and Android on November 4, 2022, which puts the anniversary date at November 4 this year.
This time the Goddess squad takes the lead. The announcement named the squad as the manga’s main characters but did not say which period of the story it covers, so how much of the game’s history the book will touch is still open.
Yokoshima Penguin is not new to the franchise. The artist has contributed to Nikke manga anthologies before, which makes this an internal promotion of sorts rather than an outside hire.
It is also not the first Nikke manga. Kio Utsusumi drew a slice-of-life series titled Goddess of Victory: Nikke Sweet Encounter. Where that book leaned on comedy and daily life, the new one is being built around the Goddess squad, which points toward heavier material.
The difference between this and the anthology work is worth spelling out for anyone who only knows the franchise through the game. An anthology is a pile of short comics from a long list of artists, each one a few pages long and unconnected to the rest. A dedicated adaptation is one continuous work with a single artist, and it usually ends up collected in volumes. Same franchise, very different commitment from the publisher.
The announcement visual fills in one detail the article text does not: the manga will serialize in Dengeki Maoh itself. The poster reads “serialization begins this winter,” credits Yokoshima Penguin on art and SHIFT UP as supervisor, and carries the game’s fourth-anniversary logo. It also promises more details soon.
What the game is
Goddess of Victory: Nikke mixes gacha card collecting with shooter mechanics. Publisher Level Infinite launched it worldwide in November 2022, then added a PC version in February 2023 with single account login and cross-play against the mobile version. The premise is that players command a squad of android soldiers called Nikke, described as the last hope for retaking the surface from an alien race called Raptures that drove humanity underground.
Nikke has leaned on crossovers heavily. Chainsaw Man, NieR:Automata, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- and Evangelion have all passed through the game. A-1 Pictures animated a special video for the game’s Old Tales event in 2024, so the franchise already has a track record of working with outside studios on animation.
Why a manga matters here
Print gives the Goddess squad a fixed, readable version of its story. Event stories in gacha games rotate out, and cutscenes live inside an app that will eventually stop being supported. A tankobon sits on a shelf. For a franchise heading into its fifth year, that is a useful thing to have.
It also puts Kadokawa in the position of publishing an adaptation of a game it does not own. Goddess of Victory: Nikke belongs to SHIFT UP, the Korean studio behind Stellar Blade, and is published by Tencent’s Level Infinite. Dengeki Maoh running an official adaptation means the two sides reached a licensing deal, which is worth noting given how quickly Korean mobile games have moved into the Japanese print market. SHIFT UP’s supervisor credit on the poster suggests the studio is keeping a hand on the script rather than handing over the licence and walking away.
For now the details are thin, and that is fine. The announcement was a date, an artist and a focus. Fans of the Goddess squad have a release window and a name to watch. Anyone expecting a long run should wait for Kadokawa to confirm the schedule, since a monthly chapter count and a limited series look nothing alike on the page.
Similar licensing moves have been landing all year, from Keishi Ayasato’s Seijo Seisen novels getting a manga to Kadokawa’s Marvel manga line on KadoComi. Games are now part of that same pipeline.
