I’m Dating a Dark Summoner is getting a second, much smaller show. HIDIVE announced it will stream I’m Dating a Dark Summoner Omake Shorts, a 12-episode chibi series, starting November 6. The shorts are exclusive to the platform and arrive with an English-subtitled trailer and a key visual.
The format is sketch comedy. Amona, Roni and the rest of the cast are redrawn in chibi style and dropped into settings that have nothing to do with the main story, including a cafe, an office and a school. If you have seen a tie-in short from a romantic comedy before, you know the shape of it: the characters keep their personalities, lose their proportions, and the jokes run on whatever the setting allows.
Who is making the shorts
Acali Arimiya directs and designed the characters. Arimiya shares scripting duties with Araki Humisato, and production is handled by Deregula, the anime label of WWWave Corporation. WWWave also owns the ComicFesta web manga service and the AnimeFesta programming block, which is where this kind of short-form spin-off usually comes from.
The main series has a different team. Seiya Miyajima, whose credits include Umayon and BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Pico, directed the television anime and handled series composition and scripts. Takahiro Sasaki designed the characters and was chief animation director. Deregula produced that too, so the studio is the constant between the two.
Where the main show stands
The parent anime premiered on Tokyo MX on October 4 at 25:20, which on a normal clock is 1:20 a.m. on October 5. BS11 followed on October 7. HIDIVE has been streaming the television version as it airs, so the shorts land on a service that already has the audience in place. It sits in a fall 2026 lineup that has been heavy on fantasy romance.
The premise is worth stating plainly, since it explains why a chibi spin-off makes sense. Amona is a demi-human dark summoner who draws her power from demons. Roni is a cleric on the righteous side. They end up in the same party, everyone assumes the arrangement will collapse within a minute, and by the end of day one they have slept together. The comedy is the gap between what the pairing looks like from outside and what it actually is, which is exactly the sort of dynamic that survives being shrunk down and put in an office.
The manga behind it
Shaoh launched the manga in Kadokawa’s Dra Dra Sharp# online magazine in 2021, and the eighth collected volume came out on October 9. That is a decent runway of material for a series that only started airing in October.
Music for the main anime comes from Ringo Coisio, who performs the opening “Zettai Kansei Kisei Jijitsu,” and Mao Komiya, who handles the ending “AKUMA No Hime Goto.” The shorts have not been announced with their own theme songs.
Why a chibi version is the easier sell
Twelve episodes at chibi length will burn through in well under an hour, which makes this the low-commitment version of a show whose premise puts some viewers off before episode one. It also gives HIDIVE something to schedule weekly while the main series is still running.
The shorts begin on HIDIVE on November 6.
