Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! Gets a TV Anime for January 2027

WWWave Corporation announced on Friday that its Deregula label is producing a television anime of Rui Takato’s Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight!, and that it will premiere in January 2027. The Japanese title is Hagure Idol Jigokuhen. Takato drew a new illustration to mark the announcement.

Takashi Ando directs at Raiose. Ando’s recent credits include My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog and My Girlfriend’s Friend, which tells you roughly what register the production is aiming for.

Eeyo Kurosaki is writing and supervising the scripts, with Yoasobi Gurashi, Do You Like Big Girls? and The Lonely Snow Widow and the Cursed Ring behind her. Ryuji Iwata designs the characters, Morimori is chief animation director, and ZincP composes the music.

The rest of the staff includes Yutaka Aota on art direction, Do Kim Hoan Tran for art setting, Riku Saito on colour, Tomohiro Hayashi handling both photography and editing, and Akinori Shiba as sound director at Object.

The manga has a strange history

Takatō launched the series in Nihonbungeisha’s Bessatsu Manga Goraku in February 2014. That magazine folded in December 2014, and the series moved to Manga Goraku Special in March 2015, where it continued. Nihonbungeisha published the nineteenth collected volume on April 28. Seven Seas Entertainment puts it out in English under its Ghost Ship adult imprint and released the eighth omnibus, covering the original volumes 17 and 18, on July 14. It also inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan in September 2020.

Then things got complicated. The manga entered its climax in July 2021. In 2022, Takatō announced he was retiring from drawing manga, saying circumstances at home made it difficult to keep producing a series about what he bluntly described as “boobs and sex”. The manga went on hiatus with him.

He came back. Takatō returned to the industry and resumed the series in March 2024, and it has been running since.

That history is worth knowing, because it explains why a January 2027 anime is a genuinely odd and slightly welcome outcome. A series that stalled on its author’s exhaustion, restarted two years later, and now gets a full TV production is not the usual path.

What else Takatō has done

His Pale Blue Dot Battle Athletes Daiundokai ReSTART! manga was a completely new story for the Battle Athletes Victory franchise, a 1990s multimedia project. Its prologue ran on Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha’s Comic Ruelle and Comic Jardi sites from June 2020 and ended in March 2021, and it got an anime in April 2021 that Funimation streamed as it aired.

So this is not a first-time adaptation for him, though Booty Royale is a different beast entirely.

The label question

Deregula is WWWave’s adult imprint, and Januaries have become a reliable home for this kind of late-night material. The practical question for anyone outside Japan is distribution. Shows in this bracket regularly go unlicensed in the West, or get picked up and then quietly pulled. Interspecies Reviewers is the well-known case from this corner of the market: Funimation dropped it in January 2020 and Amazon Prime Video removed both versions the following month. That show was also based on a manga by Amahara, who is in the news this week with his own anime announcement.

Nothing has been announced about international streaming. Given the source material, assume a specialised platform or nothing at all, and be pleasantly surprised if a mainstream service steps in.

Where it lands

January 2027 is getting crowded. You can track the confirmed premieres in our Winter 2027 anime season guide, which now includes this one.

Booty Royale will not be competing for the same audience as the season’s big fantasy adaptations, and it does not need to. It has nineteen volumes of source material, a live-action film, an English release and an author who came back to finish what he started. That is a more solid foundation than most late-night anime get.

Whether Raiose can deliver on the material is the open question. Ando’s track record is in short-form adult comedy, which fits, but a TV series needs more consistency than a handful of OVA-style episodes.
