Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 4 Anime Confirmed, Wit Studio Returns to Animate

Ascendance of a Bookworm is not done being adapted yet. The staff for the anime of Miya Kazuki’s light novel series announced on Saturday, October 3, 2026, that part 4 of the novels — Founder of the Royal Academy’s So-Called Library Committee (Kizoku-in no Jishō Tosho Iin) — will receive a television anime, with Wit Studio returning to animate.

The announcement landed the same day part 3, Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, aired its final episode. That season premiered on April 4, 2026 on the Yomiuri TV and NTV channels at 5:30 p.m. JST, ran across two consecutive cours for a half-year stretch, and ended on October 3.

No premiere date, episode count or cast list for part 4 has been revealed yet. Wit Studio’s return is the main confirmed production detail so far, and the announcement came from the anime’s official channels rather than a leaked listing or a magazine tease.

What part 4 covers

The subtitle points to the story arc built around Rozemyne’s time at the Royal Academy and the library committee she forms there. The later parts of the novels shift the focus away from the workshop-and-bookstore material of the early story toward academy life and the noble politics that surround Rozemyne, which is a different kind of storytelling than the seasons animated so far.

That matters for how the adaptation is received. Parts 1 through 3 had a clear, small-scale goal at their center — Myne’s long campaign to make books in a world where they are a luxury. Part 4 moves the character into an institution, and the anime will have to carry a larger cast and a more political register than before.

Who returned for part 3

Yuka Iguchi returned as Rozemyne (previously Myne) and Show Hayami returned as Ferdinand. Part 3 was directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki (Kowloon Generic Romance, Hayate the Combat Butler, We Never Learn: BOKUBEN) at Wit Studio, replacing the franchise’s previous director Mitsuru Hongō — a change of hand that did not appear to unsettle the production.

Mariko Kunisawa returned to write the series scripts, Aiko Minowa (After the Rain, The Ancient Magus’ Bride in-between animation) served as the new character designer, and MICHIRU returned to compose the music. Whether that same core team moves on to part 4 has not been announced.

A franchise that keeps going

The first anime season premiered in October 2019 and ended that December with 14 episodes. The second season followed in April 2020 and the third in April 2022. Crunchyroll streamed all three seasons as they aired and is handling the recent run with English subtitles and an English dub.

The source material, by contrast, has been complete for years. Kazuki began the novels on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2013 and ended the web novel in 2017, with You Shiina illustrating the print editions. The main series concluded with its 33rd volume — volume 12 of part 5 — in December 2023. The novels now have over 13 million copies in circulation, digital included, and J-Novel Club publishes both the light novels and several of the manga adaptations in English.

For a series whose print run is finished, that is the interesting setup: the anime is now adapting a story it knows the ending of, in order, at whatever pace it chooses.

Why it matters

Wit Studio’s involvement is the headline for most viewers. The studio built its reputation on Attack on Titan‘s early seasons, Vinland Saga and Spy x Family, and it has now carried Ascendance of a Bookworm through two consecutive parts. Continuity of studio and staff is not guaranteed in this industry, so the fact that Wit is attached again is genuinely reassuring for a series that depends on consistent, detailed world-building and a large recurring cast.

It also confirms that the adaptation is being treated as a long-term project rather than a single-season experiment. Part 3 ending on October 3 and part 4 being confirmed the same day is a schedule rarely matched in television anime, and it suggests the producers are comfortable committing to the remaining novels as the story moves into its academy and succession-politics phase.
