Because I, the True Saint, was Banished Anime Confirms January 2027 Debut in Teaser

Because I, the True Saint, was Banished, that Country is Done For! has a release window. Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed a teaser promotional video on Saturday, October 3, confirming that the television anime of Shikiso Utsuzawa’s light novel series will debut in January 2027.

The video also revealed that Kanako Hara (Blue Orchestra TV 2, A Destructive God Sits Next to Me) is composing the music. The series will star Masumi Tazawa as Elian and Taku Yashiro as Nigel.

The full title in Japanese is Shin no Seijo de Aru Watashi wa Tsuihō Saremashita. Dakara Kono Kuni wa Mō Owari Desu. The teaser did not include an episode count or a specific day within January.

Who is making it

Tsukasa Sakurai (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Golden Time, and an episode animation director on Little Witch Academia) is directing the anime at Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab. Naoki Tozuka (I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince across two seasons, Meiji Gekken: 1874) is in charge of series scripts, and Naru Nishikōri, who worked alongside Tozuka on both of those titles, is designing the characters.

The combination is notable because Sakurai and Tozuka are attached to two adaptations announced the same day. Both are also credited on the main staff for Rebuild World, which had its own key visual revealed on October 3, suggesting a production team moving through multiple Kadokawa-driven light novel titles in parallel.

What the story is about

Kodansha USA Publishing, which began releasing Matsu’s manga adaptation in English digitally in 2024, describes the premise as follows: Eliane has served since childhood as the saint and protector of the Kingdom of Belkheim, warding off monsters and securing bountiful harvests through her prayers. When a pretender saint convinces the foolish prince — to whom Eliane is engaged — that she is a fraud, he calls off the marriage and banishes her. Homeless, penniless and free to chart her own course for the first time, she sets out for a neighboring kingdom hoping to live quietly as a commoner, only for a chance encounter on the road to upend her plans.

It is a familiar shape for the current wave of fantasy light novels — a competent heroine discarded by an ungrateful kingdom — and the title leans into the consequences for the country that made the choice.

From web novel to anime

Utsuzawa launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in June 2020. Kodansha began publishing the light novels with illustrations by Pukyunosuke in January 2021, and the seventh volume shipped in Japan in December 2024. Mokuba Matsu’s manga adaptation debuted in April 2021 in Kodansha’s Palcy app; the 13th compiled book volume released on July 30, and K MANGA is also publishing the manga in English.

Why it matters

A January 2027 slot puts the anime in one of the year’s most competitive seasons, so the teaser’s job was less to build hype than to establish that the production is real and on schedule. Revealing the lead cast and composer alongside the window is the standard, and reasonably informative, way to do that.

Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab is a smaller studio, which makes the staff list the more useful signal for viewers deciding whether to follow the project: a director and writer with a steady recent track record and a clear house style are the kind of details that tend to predict how a lower-key adaptation will look and move. We will update this article when an exact premiere date and further cast details are announced.
