Kuraku Ichikawa’s Drama Queen is ending. The creator announced on X on Monday that the Shonen Jump+ series has four chapters left, which is the only number in the announcement and the only timeline anyone gets.
The manga launched on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in December 2024. MANGA Plus publishes it in English, so readers outside Japan can follow the last four chapters as they land.
The premise
It is ugly in a way that suits the title. Aliens saved the Earth, then stayed, and humans in Japan now live alongside them. Nomamoto works in a factory under an alien boss who treats her badly. She meets Kitami, who says his family was killed by aliens, and the two of them become friends fast. Then Kitami does something the official description declines to describe.
That is the whole hook MANGA Plus gives away, and it is enough. The series built its reputation on being nastier than the average Jump+ comedy, and the four-chapter warning fits a story that was never going to wind down gently.
Shueisha shipped the seventh compiled volume on September 4. Four chapters is not a volume. Whatever comes after the last chapter, the seventh book is likely the final collection readers can put on a shelf, unless Shueisha pads the eighth with bonus pages.
Why the count matters more than a date
Ichikawa did not give a final chapter date. The chapter count does the same job from the other direction: four weeks if the series runs weekly, longer if it does not, but either way this is a matter of weeks.
That short runway is how a lot of Jump+ endings get announced. The platform’s series announce their finish a few chapters out rather than months ahead, which means the manga’s own readers usually learn the ending is coming at roughly the same time the rest of us do. There is no long goodbye, no final arc trailed a year in advance.
For anyone reading in English on MANGA Plus, the practical effect is simple. Four more chapters on the platform’s usual schedule, and the series is complete. A story that started in December 2024 finishes in around two years, which is a tight, deliberate run for a manga that leans this hard into shock.
A short-lived wave of Jump+ endings
Drama Queen is not alone this month. Shonen Jump+ has been clearing space on its lineup, and the endings have been arriving in clusters rather than one at a time. Hiromasa Okujima’s Shijūkara ga Naku Koro ni wraps at eight chapters, and Jun Kirarazaka’s Blobtopia has three chapters left after starting in March.
Jump+ runs dozens of series at once, so a handful of endings in the same season is normal housekeeping. What is unusual is how many of them are short, finite stories built to end rather than long runners getting cut. Drama Queen sits in that group: a closed story with a volume count in the single digits.
The platform has been launching replacements at the same rate. Nightmare of Oveja Negra arrived on Jump+ and MANGA Plus at the same time, and Claymore creator Norihiro Yagi started Bartlet Fairy Basslet on the service this autumn. For every series closing, there is a new one taking the slot.
What is still unknown
Three things, and Ichikawa did not address any of them. There is no final chapter date beyond the four-chapter count. There is no word on a new project. There is no anime announcement, and nothing about Drama Queen suggests one is in the works, so treat any claim otherwise as noise until Shueisha or an official channel says something.
What is confirmed is thin and clean. Four chapters. A seventh volume that shipped on September 4. A series that began in December 2024 and will finish before the end of the year at the current pace.
For a manga about people being awful to each other with aliens standing in the background, a short, sharp ending is the right shape. The worst outcome for a series like this is hanging around long enough to become ordinary.
