Boichi’s The Marshal King is calling it a day after a run that was shorter than expected. The manga’s 33rd chapter, released on Friday, announced that the series will end with its next chapter on October 16.
The ending caps a stop-and-start schedule. The manga went on hiatus in December and only resumed on September 4 of this year, so the final stretch has been brief after the break. That gap of roughly nine months means the series spent longer on the calendar than its chapter count alone would suggest.
A Western in Shonen Jump+
The Marshal King is a Western, which is unusual ground for a Japanese web manga platform. Viz Media is releasing it in English, and its description sells the premise plainly: a two-fisted tale about desperadoes and the marshals who hunt them, set in the American Wild West as imagined by Boichi, the artist behind Dr. Stone and One Piece: Ace’s Story.
Boichi launched the manga in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in February 2025. Shueisha published the third volume in Japan in November 2025, and the service’s MANGA Plus platform also publishes the series in English.
Ending after roughly a year and a half of serialization and three collected volumes puts The Marshal King on the shorter side for Boichi’s catalog, though the hiatus accounts for part of that gap.
The Dr. Stone connection
Boichi is best known for his partnership with writer Riichirou Inagaki. The two launched the 26-volume Dr. Stone in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2017 and ended it in March 2022. Viz Media published that manga in print and digitally, and MANGA Plus carried it in English as well.
Dr. Stone’s anime ran for years. The first season debuted in July 2019, and Stone Wars followed in January 2021. Dr. Stone: New World, the third season, split its two cours between April and October 2023. The fourth and final season, Dr. Stone: Science Future, aired its first cours in January 2025, its second in July 2025, and its third and last on April 2.
The franchise is not finished, either. A sequel anime titled Dr. Stone Terraforming has been green-lit, which keeps the series in circulation even as Boichi’s newer work wraps.
Why it matters
Shonen Jump+ has become a home for shorter, creator-driven series that do not fit the length of a traditional Shonen Jump hit, and The Marshal King is a clear example. A Western with a famous artist attached ran for three volumes and then closed, rather than being extended past the point where the story needed to go.
For Boichi, the bigger draw remains Dr. Stone, both on the page and in anime form. Readers who follow his art will want to see where he lands next. For now, The Marshal King has one chapter left, on October 16.
