Kadokawa has released the main promotional video for the upcoming My Happy Marriage anime special, and it comes with the first look at the opening theme. The trailer reveals and previews “Shiawase de Namida ga Deru no wa” (Crying Tears of Happiness) by singer Riria.
The three-episode special continues the story of Miyo Saimori and Kiyoka Kudo, and it will air and begin streaming on October 25, 2026. Netflix will carry it exclusively worldwide.
Returning cast and a new face
Reina Ueda and Kaito Ishikawa return from the previous seasons as Miyo and Kudo. The special adds M.A.O as Kimio Nagaba, a new character who appears when Miyo attends a cooking class with Hazuki and reunites with a former elementary school classmate.
M.A.O said in a comment that Kimio “makes her appearance with a subtly unsettling atmosphere,” and that she tried to express the complicated feelings the character carries. She added that viewers should watch to see how Kimio becomes involved with Miyo and Kiyoka “as they overcome various hardships and move toward happiness.”
The ending theme is “Prelude no Temae ni: ~for me&you~” by Kashitarō Itō, who has performed ending themes for the television anime before.
The staff returning to Kinema Citrus
Takehiro Kubota is back to direct the special at Kinema Citrus. Kubota directed the first season and the 2024 OVA, and co-directed the second season with Masayuki Kojima; he is also handling series composition for the special. Mika Tanaka, who worked on production advancement for the first season, pens the script alongside Ikuho Negi.
Shōko Yasuda returns as character designer, working with Hikaru Sato and Kuniyuki Itō. Evan Call returns to compose the music, with Takahiro Ikeda returning as music director and MIRACLE BUS credited for music production. Kisuke Koizumi is back as sound director, with Glovision on sound production. The special also brings back color designer Anna Okamatsu, compositing director of photography Tsunetaka Ema, 3D director Yūji Koshida, editor Masayuki Kurosawa, kimono designer HALKA and 2D artist hydekick. Omi Noda steps up from background art on the second season to background art director.
Where the story picks up
The special follows the conflict with Naoshi Usui and the Gifted Communion. After awakening as the Maiden of Dream-Sight and reuniting with Kiyoka, Miyo looks toward their wedding as the two settle into a more peaceful life. That calm is disrupted at the cooking class, when Kimio performs a “charm” intended to make Miyo even happier — the setup for the new story.
The franchise so far
Akumi Agitogi and Tsukiho Tsukioka launched the My Happy Marriage (Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon) light novel series in January 2019. Yen Press licensed the novels in English, and Rito Kohsaka’s manga adaptation debuted on Square Enix’s Gangan Online in December 2018, with Square Enix Manga & Books releasing it in English.
The first anime season premiered in July 2023 with 12 episodes, and Netflix began streaming it worldwide that same month. The second season followed in January 2025 on Tokyo MX, BS11, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, TV Aichi and AT-X, with Netflix and other services streaming alongside the broadcast. The eighth novel volume bundled an original anime, “Shiawase no Katachi,” on Blu-ray Disc in March 2024, and that OVA streamed worldwide in November 2024. A live-action film also opened in Japan in March 2023, topping its opening weekend with 479,700 tickets and 654 million yen (about US$4.97 million) in three days.

Why it matters
The special is a low-risk win for a franchise that has grown quietly but steadily across novels, manga, anime and live action. Bringing back the core cast and almost the entire production team keeps continuity intact for a story that lives on small emotional details, while the October 25 date and the Netflix-exclusive window give international viewers a clean, simultaneous way to watch. The opening and ending themes round out the package: a returning anisong name in Itō and a new one in Riria.
