Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius is giving Cells at Work! one more part of the body to explore. The magazine’s November issue has announced Hataraku Saibō Dental (Cells at Work! Dental), a brand-new spinoff written and drawn by Koma Warita and Kawede Sakaki, and it is set to launch in the following issue on October 26, 2026.
The announcement appeared in the issue that shipped on Friday, September 25, and the new series will take the franchise into the human mouth for the first time.
What we know about Cells at Work! Dental
Details beyond the creative team and the launch date are still limited. What is confirmed is that Cells at Work! Dental is an official spinoff of Akane Shimizu’s Cells at Work!, that Koma Warita and Kawede Sakaki handle the manga, and that it begins in the next issue of Monthly Shonen Sirius on October 26.
The mouth is a logical next stop for a series that has already turned blood, digestion, germs and even pregnancy into serialized drama. It is also a setting with plenty of familiar hazards to build stories around — plaque, cavities, gum disease and the everyday battles that happen out of sight.
The franchise has quietly become a spinoff factory
Cells at Work! is one of the few manga that keeps teaching readers while it entertains them, and Kodansha has leaned into that. Kodansha USA Publishing has released a long list of related titles in English, including Cells at Work: Bacteria!, Cells at Work! Neo Bacteria!, Cells at Work! White Brigade, Cells at Work! Baby, Cells NOT at Work!, Cells at Work! Code Black, Cells at Work and Friends!, Cells at Work: Platelets!, Cells at Work! Lady and a set of picture books.
The most recent of those to wrap was Cells at Work! Cat, created by Choko Aozora and Meku Kaire. That spinoff launched in Monthly Shonen Sirius in May 2023 and ended on March 26, 2026, with its fifth and final compiled volume shipping on May 8. Kodansha USA published the first English volume of Cat on September 22, 2026 — so the English release only just started even as the Japanese run came to an end.
Where the original began
Shimizu launched the original Cells at Work! in the March 2015 issue of Monthly Shonen Sirius and concluded it in January 2021. The premise turns the body into a workplace: anthropomorphized cells clock in, fight infection and deal with crises, with red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets as the recurring cast. The book has been adapted into anime and remains one of the most popular science-adjacent manga of the past decade.
Why it matters
A dental spinoff is a sensible extension of a brand that already sells itself on ordinary biology. Rather than inventing a new fictional world, the series keeps returning to the same idea: every corner of the human body is a story. The mouth gives it a fresh, highly relatable arena, and it keeps the spine of the franchise — teaching readers something real while telling jokes and staging action.
