Chanta Launches New Manga Noro-Noro Puku-Puku on Shonen Jump+

Manga creator Chanta has a new series running. Noro-Noro Puku-Puku launched in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga service on Monday, October 5, and is simultaneously available in English on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service.

The launch marks a quick return for Chanta, whose previous darkly comedic series wrapped up last year. It also continues Shonen Jump+’s habit of debuting new titles with a same-day official English release, rather than leaving readers to wait for a licensed version.

What Noro-Noro Puku-Puku is about

MANGA Plus describes the premise as follows:

An exceptionally cursed shrine maiden, Suzu, incurs the divine punishment of the gods one day… And her curse? To exorcise 108 curses with the help of Puku, the black cat possessing her head! Chanta of “Sachi’s Records 〜Sachi’s Book of Revelation〜” presents this jaw-dropping absurdist exorcist comedy!

The setup leans fully into absurdist comedy: a 108-curse sentence handed down by the gods, a shrine maiden with the worst possible luck, and a black cat perched on her head as her only support. It is a premise designed for escalating episodic gags rather than a slow-burn narrative.

Who is Chanta

Chanta previously created Sachi’s Records: Sachi’s Book of Revelation (Sachi-roku: Sachi no Mokushiroku), which launched in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website in July 2023 and ended in April 2025. Shueisha published the manga’s fifth and final compiled book volume in July 2025, and the MANGA Plus service released it in English.

That earlier title gives a clear read on the author’s register — stylised, comic, and comfortable with larger-than-life premises. Noro-Noro Puku-Puku appears to move in a similar direction, trading the earlier series’ subject matter for shrine maidens, curses and exorcism.

  • Publisher: Shueisha
  • Platform: Shonen Jump+ (Japanese), MANGA Plus (English)

Its arrival on MANGA Plus at the same time as the Japanese debut means English readers can follow the series from chapter one, simulcast-style.

Why it matters

Shonen Jump+ has become Shueisha’s main home for launching experimental and comedy-heavy titles, and same-day English simulpub has become standard practice for its biggest debuts. For a comedy series in particular, that timing matters: humour depends on readers being in on the joke at the same moment, not months later.

It is also a busy stretch for new manga. MANGA Plus recently added the Digimon Eggs manga as a simulpub in early October, and other creators have been launching new series on competing platforms at the same pace, as with Dungeon Farm artist Mozukuzu’s new Dengeki Daioh G title. Our weekly new-manga roundup tracks the releases that fall before this one.

No volume release or length has been announced for Noro-Noro Puku-Puku yet, which is normal for a series only days into its run.
