Julietta Suzuki’s Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite is getting a television anime. ShoPro Entertainment announced it on Wednesday with a teaser promotional video and a key visual, and Viz Media, which publishes the manga in English, confirmed it is producing the adaptation.
The announcement date was not random. In Japanese, 11/04 can be read as "ii oshi", roughly "good favourite", which is the sort of pun this series would make itself.
What the teaser shows
The key art puts the lead, Hina, reclining inside her coffin surrounded by merchandise devoted to her favourite character. A blood bag sits nearby, a small joke about how she feels about drinking from people directly.
The teaser video uses artwork from Suzuki’s manga rather than animation. That means no studio, no cast and no premiere window yet. Viz said those details are coming in the months ahead.
The story
Viz’s description lays it out. Hina spent 30 years as a shut-in before moving to Japan to pursue otaku life. There, she meets her neighbour Kyuta Amanatsu, a boy who looks exactly like her favourite character. His blood turns out to be something special, which draws other vampires toward him.
Suzuki started the manga in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume in November 2022, building it out of a one-shot she published in the same magazine that April. Hakusensha shipped the 10th volume on July 17 and has the 11th set for November 20. Viz released volume eight on July 7 and has volume nine down for December 1.
Why Suzuki’s name carries weight
Suzuki is the creator of Kamisama Kiss, which ran in Hana to Yume from 2008 to 2016 and finished at 25 volumes. That series got two anime seasons, four original anime DVDs that shipped with volumes 22 through 25, and a fan book with a 32-page epilogue chapter.
Her other work includes Karakuri Odette, which was her first serialisation in Hana to Yume in 2006 and won her the Outstanding Debut Award at the 31st Hakusensha Athena Newcomers’ Awards, plus Tripitaka Torinique and Nin Koi. She ended Meitantei Koko wa Yuutsu in June 2022.
That history matters for one practical reason. Kamisama Kiss is still one of the more reliably recommended shoujo romances from that era, and a new Suzuki adaptation arrives with an audience already primed for it.
Viz producing is the unusual part
Viz Media is a publisher and licensor. It has been involved in anime production before, but a greenlight announcement coming from Viz alongside ShoPro is a different setup from the usual pattern where a Japanese production committee leads and overseas publishers wait for a licence.
The company has been moving further into production over the past few years, and it has been spending on print as well, including a deluxe hardcover run for JoJolion. Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite looks like the most direct test of that production push so far.
There is also a timing argument. Viz published the English edition starting in October 2024, so the series has two years of English-language readership behind it. Announcing the anime now catches those readers while the volumes are still coming out.
The vampire shelf is filling up
Two other vampire manga have landed TV anime announcements recently. Hiragi-san’s House of Vampires is coming from Unlimited Produce by TMS, and The Record of a Fallen Vampire is set for 2027. Neither is a comedy, which makes the crowded field less of a problem than it looks.
There is a market reason for the pattern. Vampire premises let a series keep romance stakes high without committing to horror, and the comedy angle keeps the tone manageable for late-night slots.
Whether Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite stands out will depend on the staff, which has not been named. Suzuki’s strength is comic timing and expressive faces, and both need a director who understands how long to hold a reaction shot.
What we know for certain
The anime exists. ShoPro announced it. Viz is producing, and the teaser is out.
Everything else, including studio, cast, director and air date, is unannounced. We will update this article as those details come in.
