Suikoden: The Anime Streams Free on YouTube With English Subtitles From October 6

Suikoden: The Anime will stream for free on YouTube with English subtitles. The series’ official English YouTube channel announced in a video on Saturday, October 3, that the adaptation of Konami’s Suikoden II will begin streaming on October 6, with new episodes arriving on Tuesdays.

The free release is limited by region. According to the staff, the stream will be available in North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Ireland, parts of Africa and the Middle East, and in New Zealand and Australia. The full list of territories has been posted in English on the anime’s X/Twitter account.

A start date for the English-subtitled run was the main piece of new information; the announcement did not mention an English dub or a paid streaming partner.

Who is making it

Yūzō Satō, credited as just YUZO on the anime’s English website, is directing at KONAMI animation, the game studio’s own anime production arm. Ryō Hino of NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan’s anime and music production department serves as producer and production manager.

Michihiro Tsuchiya (PriPara, ClassicaLoid) is overseeing the series scripts. Fumi Ishikawa of Konami Digital Entertainment is credited as the game character designer, Arata Suzuki of Konami Digital Entertainment handled the original drafts of the anime character designs, and Ryō Yamauchi (My Master Has No Tail, Please Put Them On, Takamine-san!) is the anime character designer.

Yoshikazu Iwanami (Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell Arise) is the sound director, and Kōji Nakamura (EUREKA SEVEN AO, the Ping Pong live-action film) is composing the music.

The game it adapts

The anime adapts the story of Suikoden II, the second entry in Konami’s role-playing series. Konami released the original Suikoden for the PlayStation in 1995, followed by the sequel in 1998, and the franchise has five main installments and five spinoff games.

That legacy has been kept in circulation recently. Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, the remastered release of the two games, launched for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam in March 2025. Konami is also developing Gensō Suikoden: Star Leap, a new mobile and PC game that launched for iOS and Android on August 7 in Japan; the developers said it would also launch in English, French, German, Korean and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Why it matters

Putting a game adaptation on YouTube for free, region by region, is an unusual distribution choice and one that fits Suikoden‘s audience. The series is fondly remembered but niche outside Japan, and a free subtitled run lowers the barrier for lapsed fans and newcomers alike, rather than asking them to subscribe to another service for a show tied to a 1998 game.

It also reflects how Konami is handling the brand. Between the 2025 remaster and the new Star Leap game, the company has spent the last two years rebuilding Suikoden‘s presence, and an anime streaming at no cost serves as a wide front door to all of it. Whether the approach is extended to other regions or paired with a paid release later is still unknown.
