A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special is back, and English-speaking viewers will not have to wait for it. Season 2 premiered in Fuji TV’s “+Ultra” programming block on Wednesday, and the new season is getting a same-day English dub on Crunchyroll alongside the subtitled simulcast.
The announcement also confirmed the returning cast, both in Japanese and in English, and locked in the full weekly broadcast and streaming schedule.
When and where to watch
In Japan, the season runs Wednesdays at 24:45 (effectively Thursdays at 12:45 a.m.) on Fuji TV’s +Ultra block. It also airs on Kansai TV on Thursdays, and on Tōkai TV and AT-X on Saturdays. Japanese streaming starts on Wednesday at 25:15 JST (effectively Thursday at 1:15 a.m.) across d Anime Store, U-NEXT and Anime Hōdai, with other Japanese services following on Sunday.
For international viewers, Crunchyroll is streaming the new season, and the same-day English dub means the show can be watched in English the moment it airs rather than weeks later — a pattern the platform has leaned into more often for returning series.
Cast
The Japanese cast brings back several familiar names. Takuma Terashima voices Desir Herman, Sayumi Suzushiro voices Romantica Eru, Natsumi Fujiwara voices Pram Schnaizer, and Asami Seto voices Azrest Kingscrown. Returning members include Show Hayami as Jord Exarion, Ayako Kawasumi as Priscilla Heisilkeite, and Tarusuke Shingaki as the Bird Mask.
The English dub is also returning most of its cast. Anastasia Muñoz voices Azest, Austin Tindle voices Desir, Sarah Roach voices Romantica, Macy Anne Johnson voices Pram, John Archer II voices Wilhelm, William Ofoegbu voices Hawk, Corey Pettit voices Priscilla, and Jamie Lee voices the Mysterious Girl.
Staff and theme songs
The production team is largely unchanged. Taishi Kawaguchi returns to direct at Arvo Animation, and Takamitsu Kouno returns to oversee and write the scripts. Hiromi Katō is designing the characters, Daisuke Negishi is the art director, and Kenta Higashiohji returns to compose the music.
Rock band FLOW perform the opening theme, “Sorrow,” while singer-songwriter krage performs the ending theme, “Everlasting.”
What the story is about
Yen Press publishes the series in English and describes the premise this way: in a time when the Shadow World has taken over and most of humanity has been wiped out, a party of six heroes strives and fails to save the world. Magician Desir Herman is then given a second chance when he is thrown back in time, and he uses that chance to prepare for the disaster he already knows is coming.
That time-loop, do-over structure is the hook — it puts planning and knowledge, rather than raw power, at the center of the story.
Why it matters
The first season debuted in October 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming it in English-speaking, Latin American and European territories along with an English dub. A three-year gap between seasons is common, but returning the same director, writer, composer and much of the cast keeps the show’s identity intact.
A same-day dub is the practical headline for Western fans: it removes the wait that usually separates a simulcast from an English track. If you follow fantasy sequels this season, our coverage of Seirei Gensouki – Spirit Chronicles Season 3 and of Overgeared’s same-day English dub is a good companion read.
