Now That We Draw just got its first proper look — a teaser trailer, new character visuals, and a release window fans can finally circle on the calendar: January 2027.
The adaptation has been quietly building hype since a key visual surfaced back in March, but this is the first time we’ve actually seen the thing move. And based on the trailer, the rom-com energy is exactly where it should be.
Who’s making it
The staff lineup is solid:

The main cast is confirmed as well: Sayumi Suzushiro voices Niina Miyamoto, and Ayumu Murase plays Yuuki Uehara. You can hear both of them in the new trailer, and their chemistry carries the short tease nicely.

On the manga side, Young Animal published the seventh volume on April 28, with the eighth following on September 29. Seven Seas shipped the fifth English volume on July 28 and has the sixth scheduled for December 22.
What it’s actually about
Here’s the premise, and it’s a good one: Yuuki and Niina are two high school students who both want to become manga creators. When both of them get the same brutal feedback — that their romance stories feel fake and lack realism — Niina proposes an unconventional solution. They’ll start a secret fake relationship, purely as research.
You can probably guess where it goes from there. It’s the kind of setup that lives or dies on execution, and the source material has built enough of a following to suggest it lands.
Now That We Draw is a manga by Kyu Takahata and Yuwji Kaba, serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal seinen magazine since February 2023. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes it in English, and their official description frames it as a story about “two high school manga artists who can’t catch a break.”
Why it’s worth watching
Fake-dating rom-coms are everywhere, so the real question is what separates this one. Two things stand out from the trailer: the art direction looks warm and lived-in rather than glossy, and the manga-creation angle gives the leads an actual creative goal to fight over — something to do besides stare at each other awkwardly.
That second part matters. When a rom-com gives its characters a shared craft, the emotional beats tend to land harder because there’s real stakes underneath the butterflies.
January 2027 is still a while out, but between the trailer and the staff list, this one has moved onto our radar. We’ll update with a firm premiere date, more cast, and streaming info as it’s announced.
