Gachiakuta is coming back. Creator Kei Urana said on X on Thursday that the manga will resume on November 11, ending a hiatus that began in August.
The last new chapter ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine’s 36th and 37th combined issue, which shipped on August 5. Since then, the magazine’s website has listed the series as on hiatus, with research time for Urana given as the reason.
Kodansha stayed quiet about a return date for a while. In a comment on September 8, Weekly Shōnen Magazine said it would announce the schedule once it had been decided. In the end, the news came from Urana first.
Where the manga stands
Gachiakuta launched in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022. Hideyoshi Ando is credited for the graffiti design, which shapes a lot of the series’ look. Kodansha shipped the 19th compiled volume on July 16, and Kodansha USA Publishing puts out the English edition.
The anime adaptation premiered in Japan in July 2025 on CBC, TBS and 26 other channels. Crunchyroll streams it in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS (minus Russia and Belarus) and the Indian subcontinent, and an English dub is available too.
Toonami also added Gachiakuta to its October lineup, so the series has been reaching cable viewers abroad while the manga sat idle. The anime put the story in front of people who may never have opened the magazine, which is part of why the return date matters to more than the usual readership.
Why the wait stretched on
Research is a fair reason for a break, and a vague one. Kodansha held to it from August into October without giving a date, which left readers to guess. The publisher’s only public comment in that stretch was the September 8 note promising an announcement when the schedule was set.
A pause described as a health break tends to draw worry. A pause for research draws impatience instead, and Gachiakuta has enough of a following to notice either way. The series is deep into its run now. Volume 19 shipped in July, about four and a half years after the first chapter, and the anime brought the story to readers who never picked up the magazine.
What happens next
The manga returns in Weekly Shōnen Magazine on November 11. Kodansha has not said how long the next run of chapters will be, and the series has no announced ending. Readers following the English volumes should expect Kodansha USA’s release to trail the Japanese chapters by a volume or more, as it always has.
The anime is still easy to find in the meantime. Crunchyroll carries the full first season with both subtitles and a dub, and the show keeps turning up on TV lineups this fall.
On the manga side, Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English edition. Its volumes arrive after the Japanese ones, so English readers are usually a little behind, though nothing in the publisher’s schedule suggests a change to that pattern.
