The winter 2027 anime season runs from January to March, and it is already the most crowded January in a while. Ten shows have locked in exact premiere dates, and roughly another fifteen are confirmed for the month with nothing more specific than “January” attached.
This guide only lists shows with an announced January 2027 window. Anything that has not been dated publicly is left out, including titles that are obviously coming but have not committed to a month. Dates come from each series’ own announcement, and every entry links to our original report.
Premiere dates by day
January 4
- Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition, 12 episodes. The spinoff adapts the if-episode-of-mafia manga rather than the main story.
- Magical Buffs, with LiSA on the opening theme and Netflix among the streaming platforms.
January 5
- Monster Strike: Mera×Death, the latest entry in the long-running Monster Strike anime line.
January 7
- Charisma, which added Shinnosuke Tachibana and Tomohiro Oono to its cast in the same announcement.
- Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san?, staff confirmed at the same time as the date.
January 8
- The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All.
- BanG Dream! It’s MyGo!!!!! // Ave Mujica, the sequel that continues both bands’ story.
January 9
- Wound & Bandage, with its main cast announced alongside the premiere date.
- The Fable Season 2, which added six cast members in its own reveal.
January 10
- Love Live! Hasu no Sora, confirmed at seven episodes.
That is four shows in the first four days of the month, then a pile-up on the 7th through 9th. Broadcasters cluster premieres in the first ten days of a quarter because the ratings window and the production calendar both start there, and winter is the tightest of the four because the New Year holiday eats the run-up. Fewer slots, more shows competing for them, and the loser usually ends up somewhere past midnight.
Episode counts are already public for three of them. Iruma-kun runs 12, Love Live! Hasu no Sora runs 7, and Sekiro is 8. For the rest, nothing has been confirmed, which is normal this far out and not a sign of trouble.

What still has no answer
Streaming is the big gap. Crunchyroll has confirmed Bless and Mashle Season 3 for January, HIDIVE has Murciélago, and Netflix is carrying Magical Buffs. For the other fifteen or so titles, no platform has been announced outside Japan.
That usually sorts itself out two to three weeks before the first premiere, when the winter simulcast slates go live. If you are planning to watch most of this list legally, waiting for those announcements is not procrastination. Half the fun of a season this crowded is finding out which service actually has the thing you want.
What the season looks like
Two things stand out.
The first is how much of January is sequel and continuation work. Iruma-kun, Akane-banashi, One-Punch Man, Mashle, The Fable, BanG Dream! and Love Live! are all returning properties. Original anime in the month are rare, and Kaze wo Tsugumono is the clearest example of one.
The second is how much of the dated list runs on the same engine. Fantasy, isekai and light novel material make up most of the month: guilds, rankings, a protagonist who arrives with an unfair advantage. That is not a knock on any single show, and the audience for it is large and loyal. It does mean the season’s variety has to come from elsewhere, and this January it mostly comes from the romance and slice-of-life side.
If you only watch four things from the month, the sensible shortlist is Hirayasumi for craft, Kaze wo Tsugumono for something structurally different, Murciélago for a reason to keep HIDIVE, and Akane-banashi’s second season because the first one earned it.
For titles with dates later in the year, our 2027 anime releases guide tracks the rest of the calendar. The season that is ending now is covered in our Fall 2026 anime season guide.
